I was just curious which league has a better product? I know comparing box lacrosse and field lacrosse is like comparing apples and oranges. But as far as lacrosse fans go which league has a better product, the NLL or MLL? I've never had the opportunity to see an MLL game either live or on tv, so I can't compare the two. As far as I know the MLL isn't even carried on Canadian tv.

However, I've been to an NLL game and have seen several on tv and enjoy the game. I would think that the NLL is faster and more hard hitting but the MLL would have better defenders. Is this a correct assessment? I would assume the NLL is the lacrosse equivalent of the Arena Football League. The field is smaller, so the scoring is slightly higher, but the calibre of play suffers as a result. Conversely the MLL is the lacrosse equivalent of the NFL, where the scoring is lower than the Arena League, but the defences are alot better.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the MLL has any plans to move into Canada or at least move on to tv in Canada? I'm sure either Rogers Sportsnet of The Score (the networks that broadcast the NLL, OLA and BCLA games) would be more than happy to take on more lacrosse. Especially considering Sportsnet has such little programming of their own, they replay their 2 AM Eastern edition of Sports Central (their equivalent of Sportscentre) for a solid 13 hours in my region (Saskatchewan/Alberta) from 12 AM until 1 PM Central. I'm sure they'd gladly take on some new programming to replace this rerun.

Since I don't get to watch MLL, I prefer the NLL. From what I hear, the MLL is fine for what it is so I don't have a problem with them either.

I have never really seen a Lacrosse game live (Lacrosse is hardly played out in the west, but it is starting too grow a little) but I have seen both on TV and in my opinion I kinda like MLL a little better. Nothing wrong with Box Lacrosse, but the MLL is very similar too College Lacrosse and I think I like the rules a little better in the MLL, especially the shot clock and 2 point goals I think make for a dynamic game. Box Lacrosse just seems like Hockey only in the air, nothing wrong with that, but the Outdoor/MLL style is my preference.

I always kinda thought of the NLL - MLL comparison was the like comparing indoor soccer to outdoor soccer, with the indoor game being much more fast paced and more offensive minded. In both sports, I prefer the indoor game, but thats just my opinion. Now that I think about it, the AFL - NFL comparison is pretty fair too.

ESPN2 carries several MLL games this season, if you can get that network off a dish or cable in the US. They will broadcast the championship game in a week and a half. I have a copy of last years championship game on tape. The Long Island Lizards beat the Baltimore Bayhawks 15-14 in a pretty good back and forth game.

THat would be great except the small problem of being in Canada with the Taliban-like CRTC. We can't get ESPN2 here, even American dishes are illegal to possess. It almost makes me want to spring for an old-style big dish except I doubt many channels are still accessable on C-Band.
