View Full Version : Investors Beware - Former Rochester/ABA Star wont be playing in the PBL

When the PBL and the Rochester Razorsharks open the season the Rochester Razorsharks top player will not be with Rochester.
James "Mook" Reeves is has not and has no intentions of re-signing with Rochester.
Why not ???
Rochester plays now in the PBL which is in only mid-season when the top over seas leagues open up the season. The PBL is joining FIBA which will block the top talented players from leaving the PBL to go overseas and financially help thier own familes.
Dont believe me ? Want proof ?
Go to the Razorsharks website , James "mook' Reeves ( Who lives in Rochester) is not even attending the Razorsharks youth basketball camp while back up NCAA D-3 point guard John Halas will be involved with Rochester Native Demond Stewart.
NO "MOOK"
We will see more and more players ditch out on the PBL which blocks players and players famillies from bettering themselves.

If you think an American league's only purpose is to act as a preseason for the Euroleagues or to act as a charity organization to help some dude make a few extra bucks, then why go through all the motions to create the "ABA"?
ABA06er, errr, I mean Joe: Why don't you just set up a non-profit organization that allows these fine young gentlemen to play pick-up games while giving them "scholarships" so that they can bring home a little money to their families before going over to Europe? That's basically what you're saying in your statement above.
Why wouldn't you do this? Because you would eliminate your sucker revenue source!!! No more $10,000 checks for Joe and Connie. How would you afford to keep going to McDonald's every morning for your egg mcmuffin?

How is that proof? He wasn't in Rochester over the summer last year either. If he finds an opportunity in another league elsewhere that's better, I hope he goes for it. Somehow, if he doesn't return, I suspect he won't leave for the ABA. He'll probably go to Europe to play again. Nice try, though.

Ok Chichester or Joe....
I placed a call to Rochester.>>>
Spoke to the VP of basketball Operations, Chris Iverson.
Can I ask you a question? Sure
Do you know where James Reaves is? Yes in Rochester
Whats he doing? He is working out daily with Coach Baker and a few of the Razorsharks and some college kids at the downtown YMCA.
OK ,thank you for your time.
Spend more time Joe or Chichester on your League...dont worry about the PBL failing. See the PBL may fail....but the ABA has failed>> teams folding, missed games, mismatched uniforms, no stats, no bills paid by owners, the CEO in tons of legal trouble etc etc etc....so stay tuned 06er.....LOL

Your right Joe, hit the nail right on the head. I am not going to be part of the PBL because one player out of a zillion decided not to play this year. I can hear Reeves now, " I think I will go play for another team, make 200 per week, maybe have a season, maybe get paid, maybe have opponents show up, maybe have practices, maybe hire reputable coaches, maybe actually travel to games, maybe have practice gear and unforms, maybe play with real refs, maybe have medical coverage, maybe, maybe, maybe. All because the PBL stole Rochester

James "Mook" Reaves will be playing in the PBL.
How do I know? Let me tell you:
1. I set up the Premier Basketball League Unofficial Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/premierbasketballleague)
2. I sent "Add Friend" requests to various Myspace pages related to the PBL...
3. Mook's was one of them.
4. Not only did he accept my add request (from my unofficial PBL page) it's also #2 on his friends list!
5. Now I ask you: Would it be that high on his list if he had no plans on playing there?

Mook's own myspace page says he is "going back overseas in August" to play basketball. His agent sent his bio on mail all around the web about a month ago, saying he was available for summer and next season. So, taken together, that means he's not playing for Rochester.
I think the issue is that he won't start getting paid until January and can't wait that long. So going overseas in August will allow him to get paid sooner. (makes sense).
I can't see him playing in the ABA however since the Razorsharks paid reputed salaries that were 3x and 4x that of most ABA teams.

FWIW, I'm almost positive he played in Europe before last season for a few months before returning just before the ABA season. I recall it from a Bob Matthews column, but they aren't archived that far back. So, he's not necessarily gone for next year. We'll see.

If the ABA were really about basketball, its representatives would be selling the basketball rather than working desperately to tear down everyone else.
To me, this is proof that the ABA is about the ponzi scheme first and foremost.

way to dodge the facts and turn it around on the ABA.
This is not about the ABA , this is about how the PBL is already set up to fold and they are still 7 months from a season.
Top players are not suiting up for the PBL they are going over seas.
Rochesters top player and the guy who puts the fans in the seats has bailed.
THE ROCHESTER RAZORSHARKS ARE MISLEADING SPONSORS AND FANS BY NOT LETTING THIS INFORMATION BE KNOWN. JAMES "MOOK" REEVES THE FACE OF ROCHESTER IS NO LONGER A RAZORSHARK !!!!
Thank god investors can get this info on here because , Rochester is to busy painting this pretty picture about how everything is rosy and perfect.
Rochester when are you going to adress the ABA teams you have taken in who had no attendence last year and now they have increased travel costs by 300% ------ whats the plan of action that they surrvive more then 5 games ??????

Rochester will be able to replace him if he goes, and it wont be hard
Yea it would hurt to see him go, but there are so many great players not in the NBA and there are alot of guys just as good as Mook too!

Yeah And Those Good Players Not In The Nba Are Playing Overseas!
The Pbl Was Dumb Enough To Overlap The Overseas Main Seasons And Players Are Either Getting Ripped Off By Playing In The Pbl Or Are Smart Enough To Go Overseas.
Pbl Is Going To Be A Huge Bust
Did I Mention They Increased Travel Prices By Over 300% For These Aba Teams Who Joined The Pbl Who Drew About 200 Fans Per Game Last Year !
Yeah The Pbl Is Going To Go Flop , Flop , Flop !

Wow, really grasping at straws, eh? First, I'd say Sims is at the same level as Reaves and he's the team's true leader. But, Reaves is an outstanding player with youth. Second, as I said before, Reaves played in Europe for a few months before the ABA season. I don't know the seasons of the different leagues over there, but he has done it before. So, it's unfair to make that conclusion from a Myspace post. Heck, post that question as a comment for everyone to see if you're so concerned. ;)
Finally, the team can't guarantee everyone is going to return. Chris Carrawell was the ABA's MVP after year one. Was the fact he didn't return a huge warning flag to others on the ABA? If Reaves can do better in Europe and better position himself, I hope he does it. Even if that's the case, it's not a warning flag like you're making it out to be. The ABA claims to encourage that type of movement, after all. You really sound desperate for a story. But, I shouldn't feed the troll anyways...

So let me get this straight...Mr. James "Mook" Reeves is like, Michael Jordan or something? Oh...maybe he's kin to Christopher Reeves, making him superman junior. Oh no!!!!! I'm not going to a Razorshark game because Mook is not playing any more!!!! I hate Rochester for losing Mook.
Ummm...how many roster changes are there in the ABA? Too many to base your team loyalty on a single player, that's for sure.
And just out of curiosity, who else has informed you that they aren't playing in the PBL (yeah...sure...like Reeves gave you a call and said so). Here's the deal...what if the PBL pays people enough through salary, sponsorships, revenue sharing, etc. so they don't need to go overseas? I'm a little worn out on this "players won't be able to go overseas and make more money because of the PBL season schedule, la la la la! Have you talked to players that go overseas? A lot of them prefer to stay in the States and be closer to family, friends, and...um...NBA teams. Once the PBL garners some media hype and credibility (which I'm sure the Vegas show helped), scouts like Marty Blake (WHO I HAVE TALKED WITH --- you know...NBA scouting Director...you've heard of him????) will certainly give players in the PBL a fair shot at a bigger dream than overseas basketball.
Here's what I imagine - - the credibility of the ABA has been ruined to the point where head ABA managment sees more benefit in tearing down others on OSC rather than going after people to invest in the company.
Let me end this with a DANG IT...GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND GO FIX YOUR FREAKING LEAGUE!!!!! Again, you are an idiot. Rochester had the best attendance in all of minor league sports. What league are they in now, Mr. ABA06er?
Since you brought it up, lets take a quick look at some of the national sponsors the PBL and ABA have signed up:
PBL
Bud Light
US Army
ABA
NONE!
But not to worry. The ABA does have a high class affiliates program with the likes of Athletes and Executives, Fort Wayne's Best, Forever Fit, Old Style Leagues, and First Class Hip Hop. I don't know about you, but I've never heard of any of those organizations.
Oh, but wait. I forgot that the ABA just signed some big apparel deal. Why haven't we heard more about that lately?

Right, because everybody can afford travel in the ABA. As long as they get the paper transfers from the bus driver at the start of the route.

Ok Tom, Joe, or whomever you are with the spelling so bad that the spell check has exploded so bad Bush thought the bunker in Indianapolis had declared war on the rest of the US. You have to realize, and I know that logic escapes you, but the PBL is a legitimate league. Guess what? They perform due diligence, do background checks on prospective teams, and they even go to the prospective city to check out the arena and see the prospective owner face to face.
Let's dig a little deeper here. The PBL has major sponsors and not "Tom's Diner" over on Maple Street in downtown Noname. From my research, NONE of the current owners have been in prison, have faced fraud charges, or have been in any other sort of legal trouble. This is a legitimate league with solid ownership groups, and a solid foundation. Will they make mistakes in the first year? Of course they will. If they don't then Mr. Doyle, et al should be running the NBA and not the PBL. But, they will also learn from the mistakes of the ABA and other failed leagues.
Sorry Tommy C, the ABA isn't what you dream that it is. 60+ failed teams tells that story.

It works easy in the ABA, because a team that can't afford to travel either doesn't show up for the road game (with some lame excuse) or simply folds.
skippy
06-19-2007, 04:53 PM
How will it work?
If history tells us anything, probably similiar to the original IBL, or a little league called the ABA2000, with teams so far flung from each other that the whole league will go under in 2-3 years.
I hope it doesn't though.
What has been completely established is that this league will not be a rec league level like the ABA has become. Teams will show up for their games, players will be paid, bills will be paid, etc. Will the fans show up in droves?
We'll see, I guess.
But, this is really silly attempt by ABA06er to compare an attempt for a league to go legitimately nationwide {yes, the PBL is REALLY swinging for the fences, probably over-swinging!}vs. something that is run much less professionally than a jr. high girls parochial volleyball league.
And let's check reality here: The fact that the ABA, as well as our poster here, continue to harp on the absence of these teams speak volumes, as this much hoopla did not follow the countless "market reservation revoked" leavings. The ABA needs to keep it's own backyard in check before it looks into it's neighbors yard.
One thing I do agree with ABA06er on is that the ABA will continue....
One must never underestimate the tenacity of the cockroach.

Skippy has a point.
One thing Joe has proven to be is resiliant. I love how ABAinsider keeps harping on about the 300 percent increase in travel budgets. Its actually probably more than that. You see ABA teams don't travel so their budget is like 30 bucks, the PBL will at least attempt to get a team to town.
I read on another post that some guy took a 10,000. dollar loan out from his 401k and bought a "team" (term "team" used lightly). Ya bought into this charade and set up a website. His entire f______ business plan was to borrow money from 401k, set up a website and then use the piles of money that flowed in from all the advance ticket sales, sponsorships and season tickets to fund the operation. Needless to say, this "team" didn't exactly light the world on fire. Probably figured he'd sign his 12 closest buddys and get a free trip to Honolulu on Air Joe.
This is simply astounding if true that Joe would let someone do this, I mean looking beyond taking 10k from a guy with absolutely ZERO business acumen how does it look to the others in the league????

This is shocking! The guy actually took the $10K from his 401K???
The shock is that usually the $10K is sent in the form of cash advances of $1-3K each taken on 3 or 4 credit cards. Obviously he has not read the Keys to Success.
