I have always been a huge Akili Smith fan/collector and was curious as to how his 1st action was. I hope he can beat out burris for starting position by next season. Akili has always had amazing talent. Any updates to how he is doing in the game would be great!!!

God Bless,
Jeremiah

I didn't listen to the game because I was listening to my Riders play the Lions. But looking at the CFL Live Stats, he was 4 of 8 for 49 yards passing and 3 rushes for 16 yards. However, I really doubt the preseason is much to go on since this is the first game. They also played the worst team in the West tonight, which appears at least on paper to be even worse than they were last season.

Next week against the Riders will be a bigger indicator of how he will do. The Riders are of equal talent as the Stamps (and did beat defending Grey Cup champs BC handily tonight, but like I say I don't put much stock into it.), so Smith will be tested a lot more than he would've been tonight. If you're interested in listening to the game, its available at www.620ckrm.com and goes June 22 at 7 PM CST.

But I doubt Akili Smith will supplant Hank this season. The only way he will get his shot is if Hank goes down with an injury and he comes in for a few games. I'm thinking the coaching staff, especially Offensive Coordinator George Cortez, are big fans of Henry Burris and pay him well as a result. All the same, I am interested in seeing Akili Smith doing well. I've been a fan of his since back in his days in Oregon. I may be able to give you a better report of the game next week, by the way, I am considering heading down to Regina for it. Just depends on my work schedule and whatnot.

Smith is an example of someone that had one great year and left for the NFL for the money and couldnt live up to the hype. We cant turn back the clock and take back the horrible decision to leave early, but maybe a full year of practice in "game situations" will do him good.....I can see him going to the AAFL or UFL if those ever get off the ground.
