Great Series by The Music!:) Solid starting pitching, consistent hitting, and a virtually untouchable bullpen.

The only downside? The crowd is virtually non-existent!! Oh they're there alright, 2000-2700. Inflated by masses of little league teams and their families (at least Eight of them last night) they're mostly gone by the 4th inning. Anybody left is hardly watching the game, probably a quarter of the crowd (at most) standing to cheer a home run. (Lady and her friend behind me talking Southern History loudly ALL game:mad: )

Funny Story; Peanut player gets a hit to the wall late in the game; Lady A: "Oh is that another home run?" (Starts clapping)
Lady B: "No, it has to go over the wall, ... (pause) ...and I think it's the other team dear"!

I'm holding my head in my hands.

Two out in the ninth, about to sweep the league-leading Peanuts, me and one other guy is standing. (That's it) The Mascot is waving his hands trying to get people to stand, cheer, LOOK, Anything!! it's embarrassing.

Oh well, Baseball in The South. The Braves have a similar problem when they're not in 1st place;)

Beetm,

Don't get frustrated! It is what it is. As a father of 2 boys here in Macon for the last 6 years I have developed such a love hate relationship with this town when it comes to minor league sports. To be able to take my kids to see hockey (whoopie and Trax), basketball (Blaze), football (Knights), and baseball (Braves, Peaches, and Music) has been awesome (and affordable). Only one of those teams still exists in part because of fan apathy. That's ashame, but let's embrace it. You might not remember what some fan says about a base hit, but you'll always remember those two old ladies talking Southern History. Hey if you want, we can co-author a book entitled "A Season in the life of a Macon Music Fan."

You Interested?

Lol! Yeah sounds good, what with the history of Macon teams it might be good to record this season for posterity!

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the fact that baseball is here, I'm enjoying the games, I think it's fantastic. The only thing I'm frustrated with is the actual Fan involvment in the games, and that's worrying for this reason; What happens when the "First season Novelty" wears off? When it's no longer the "in-thing" to mention you went to the game? (never mind you don't know who won!)I can give you an educated guess at how many people there last night are coming back just for the baseball, and it ain't many.:(

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find 2000 or so folk (who presumably bought a ticket) for Any event that was so completely dissassociated from the event that they came to witness!! Imagine three-quarters of a movie audience moving around, chatting, not having the slightest interest in the Movie!! Not being able to tell you what it was about at the end. (I guarantee you many people left last night's game not knowing who won!)

From what I understand it's a particular Southern trait at games where they are treated as "Meeting places", where social interaction is far more important than what's going on in the field. I've been to some Red Sox games where anyone there could tell you the score without looking at the scoreboard. I've also been to many Braves games where in recent years (Last 4-5) some people didn't know who their opponents were!!

Personally, I'd rather watch a game with 500 involved Fans than 2500 disinterested observers. But hey, that's just me, I'll get used to it.

We Southerners tend to use any public event as a chance to catch up on gossip and see old friends:infun:
I think the fans in Anderson are a pretty involved bunch though. The crowds seem to be staying till the end - except maybe in a 17-3 beating. And for the most part - in the area I'm sitting anyway - they seem to be fairly knowledgeable. (They cheer at the right time, and have some great insults for the umps).
The only gripe I have about the fans in Anderson is the guy on opening night who tried to star "the wave" Pretty difficult to do in a stadium with seats that only go from 3rd base to first base. And this doofus was sitting behind home plate. Ticked me off because while he was trying to draw attention to himself, AIKEN hit a two run homer over the left-center field wall!
DOH!
But don't go by me - I'm one of those guys who wants to keep a scorecard...

Yeah, but scorecard=involved!

And I hear what you're saying about the fans there in Anderson, a lot of folk chat during the games everywhere, but there's an awful lot of folks in Macon (at least in some of the games I've been to) that are not involved in the game in any way.

I used to love the weekday afternoon games (Businessman's specials) in Atlanta, going alone, I sometimes took a scorecard; The reaction was pretty funny; "What's he doing?" and loads of funny looks!:p

Scorecards seem to be a dying art.
Remember the days when even the minor league teams included a scorecard in the program?
I miss that...
