It was good while it lasted, but the true is that Katy's will slip out of the playoff and the Odessa will sly in.
Obviously Louisiana will take the top spot, follow by Corpus Christi. The only question we have is who going to be the team is left behind. Frisco, Katy or Odessa the answer is Katy for one simple reason, their schedule.
- Katy (5-3) have to face to face Louisiana twice, Odessa, Frisco twice and Corpus Christi, all of those are playoff contender not to mention the top 2 teams in the league. The best they can do is maybe 2-4 to finish the season 7-7.
- Frisco (5-3) doesn’t have to face Louisiana for the rest of season and only have to face Corpus Christi once. They play better football each and every week 4-2 finishing the season 9-5 and holding one of the last 2 playoff spot.
- Odessa (4-4) unless there's several shockers Odessa should take the other playoff spot. Other than Louisiana once down the stretch, they don’t face any hard to beat team down the road. Have to face Alaska twice, San Angelo once, Frisco and Katy. They will finish 4-2 having a record of 8-6.
The bottom feeders will end:
Alaska 3-11
San Angelo 3-11
Cen Tex 1-13

I agree with that assessment. I think if Odessa can work a few minor kinks out (one being the kicker situation), then they just might slip past Frisco and take the 3 seed. Either way, Katy's schedule is brutal and they will fall out.

HUGE game this week for Katy and Odessa at the Merrill Center. While both teams are 5-4, Odessa has already beaten Katy once. If Odessa beats them again, they will be 1 up with a tie breaker (the equivalent of a two game lead). Looks like these two teams are fighting for the final playoff spot and even though there will be 4 weeks remaining after this weeks game, this game could determine the 4th seed.
In spite of losing 3 in a row, Katy looked good last week against LA. I'll be there rooting them on (hopefully to a win).

Oh....was the point of this league to win games?
My local team the Wild are a little confused about that.

Not to look ahead, but hoping that Odessa beats Katy...the Roughnecks then have a chance to beat Frisco at home. If they can, and win by more than 19, they own the tiebreaker over Frisco and hold the three seed, moving Frisco to the four.
Yeah, it's not good to look ahead, but oh well.

Very exciting game tonight in Katy. Odessa held on for a 62-55 win.
Three huge interceptions plagued Katy. One in particular was returned the length of the field for a TD....thus pretty much a 14 point swing. Katy gave up a kick return for a TD too.
I don't know all of the timing rules....so I could be way off base here....but I think Katy made a huge mistake by accepting a penalty with about 33 seconds to play. Odessa was on offense (after Higg's 3rd interception) leading 62-55 and ran the ball (on first down) for about a 2 yard gain. Odessa was called for off sides. Katy accepted the penalty therefore having to replay 1st down. When the ref whistled the ball in play, Katy was forced to call a TO before Odessa's new first down play. Odessa was in perfect position to run out the clock unless they couldn't advance the ball.
After a short gain, Katy was forced to call TO's after the 1st down and 2nd down play as well (therefore using all 3 TO's). Here is where Odessa made a mistake (I think)...the QB scrambled on the 3rd down play and allowed himself to be knocked out of bounds...stopping the clock....and short of a first down. After moving across the line of scrimage, he could have hit the ground and run out the clock (I think). Fortunately for Katy, Odessa fumbled the snap on the 4th down FG try and Katy was awarded the ball at about mid field with about 20 seconds to play.
After 4 trys, Katy was unable to score and Odessa held on for the win.
All in all, pretty exciting game. Of course I was disappointed that Katy lost. On a side note, it was nice to meet Phyedaux and spend a few minutes chatting.

a Corpus staffer kept me up to date on that game. tight one there, too it seems. and we get Katy next:( Just what we (Swashbucklers) need, a good team, who has everything to play for right now, inc revenge and the opportunity to give us our first loss. read what I wrote about our game in that thread if interested in our game vs CC tonight. congrats Odessa and to Katy having been there last week, nice arena, good team, great coach, and even nicer dance team:)
