(ESPN2 2pm) I think this will have an impact on The SCL. How many players are holding out in the hope of getting signed by a MLB club?
I think, (And I know nothing!) that a bunch of guys become available Friday after finding out that they need a second chance. May be big changes in some clubs in the next week or so... (Perhaps some bargains that the big clubs missed?)
I'm a complete beginner at these Independent Leagues, so if anyone more experienced knows any better please stop me embarrassing myself...

Okay, due to my obvious ignorance on the subject I went and read up on it (Baseball America has got a pretty thorough write-up).
I found out that our guys are also eligible to be drafted!
A player is eligible for selection if he is a resident of the United States or Canada and has never signed a major league or minor league contract. (Contracts with independent professional leagues don't count.)
So I guess I'll stick with my original assumption, and add that the changes could impact more than I thought!

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure that the SCL will be impacted negatively by the draft. From what I remember its uncommon for more than one or two Indy league players to be drafted in a single year. These players are usually one of two types, either a defector from Cuba or a major prospect who was drafted coming out of college but wanted too much money from the team who drafted him and opted for the indy leagues instead. I know very little about the SCL, but I'm not sure that any players of these two categories are playing in the SCL.
On the otherhand, the SCL may be impacted positively in a round about way by the draft. There may be a few players who were passed on by the MLB teams who are looking for a spot to play after the NCAA season is done. As a result, you might see a few players trickle into the SCL who didn't make the cut in the draft, but are still talented in their own right.
