The Womens United Basketball Association (WUBA) is forming for the 2008-09 season. For information contact Jen Myers at wuba2008_2009@yahoo.com.

On August 1, 2007 we are unveiling the following:

1) Website
2) Office location.
3) Constitution and By-Laws
4) Officers
5) Franchise Reservation application
6) Name of legal representation.

The planned launch is November 2008. This is a minor league, not an effort to compete with the WNBA or Europe. Market strategy is to simply provide entertainment alternatives in small markets.

Prospective owners will be required to go through a background check and provide audited financial statements. This process takes about 30 days.

Cost of franchise rights is $25,000.00.

Annual dues, the amount of which will coincide with a determination of what the league's operating costs are for each fiscal year.

Ownership of the league has pursued due diligence for the last 12 months, including trademark and copyright issues, securing a web design company, incorporating, and drafting admission guidelines, etc. Almost complete on all of the above.

Member organizations will oversee any expansion and admission of new franchises after the first year of operation. Fines and penalties exist for teams who fail to meet league standards and guidelines.

Much more.

For phone number and contact information, please email the above address.

Sounds at least in general that you have a decent idea. One piece of advice, read through a few of the threads from the last few seasons in the ABA forum. Take note of exactly what you should not do with your league. I also hope you have prospective cities in a close distance to each other. Creating a league that has teams from LA to New York and Miami to Minneapolis might look good on paper, but your league will be doomed to fail as a result. Teams must be in driving distance of each other.

Judging by your name I assume you intend for this league to be in the Southern states and Florida. If you do expand to places outside of driving distance of those in the future, I'd suggest running your league like MLB used to with the various regions playing amongst themselves with the only the champions meeting for any sort of interleague play.
