USBL FUTURE LOOKS SOLID
by John Gary - Jun 4, 2007
Despite rumors, the USBL future looks bright. REcently, i spoke with JACOB GORDON of the USBL front office who offered this prospectus of the league. H e said every effort will be made in the future to insure that ownership groups are strong. He said that the league wants DELAWARE back and that NEW JERESEY AND LONG ISLAND could rejoin the league.

HE Said that the league will work with any interested group and that there are over a dozen inquiries for franchises . HE SAID THAT THE LEAGUE WAS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE gary steelheads could become part of the NBDL, AND THAT they could still play in the USBL IF they choose to do that. HE SAID THAT the LONG ISLAND PRIMETIME WILL play all away games that the DELAWARE STARS WHERE SCHEDULED To play but they will not be part of the post season tournament.
In what way, shape or form does the future look bright?
How could anybody with a lick of sense write that based on what Jacobs said?

The only future for this league is to jettison the entire eastern division and concentrate on the midwest. Nothing personal against Albany, but this league is strongest in the midwest. They need to get six to 10 mid-sized midwest cities without a lot of other competition (that's why Dodge City, Salina and Enid work so well).
The USBL stock is doing a little better than the ABA's but it's still no hot investment.

Shills trying to "sell" the league are the norm, not the exception.
I guess I'm getting older when I refuse to bring forth any shock or surprise at the comment. You could argue, given that comment, that it's made based on the probability that they may have an interested expansion party.
Still, "all is well" brings up all the other old Animal House jokes as well. One might think at this point that this league is the horse in the Dean's office.

The usbl is for sale. I think that the remaining teams will leave the USBL and start their own league away from the mess that is the USBL> What a shame. This used to be such a great league

Once the Meisenheimers jump ship this league is kaput. I'm not enthralled with the whole league right now but I'll hand it to the family thats paying some of the freight.

Any official word or confirmation that the Messenheimers are in fact trying to sell their shares?

A lot of this is just old news. The USBL has said previously about LI filling in for Delaware, but that they will not be in the tourney. They also said that WITH THE RIGHT OWNERSHIP that the 3 teams could return.
However, this is the league's PR guy. Do you really think he would say something negative? Or anything remotely cloudy?
The league needs to go back to its roots and stop thinking big. They don't need major cities, they need solid ownership.
This story says nothing. It's all PR.

Oh the USBL is solid alright..........
as solid as the Titanic
as solid as the WMD evidence in the lead up to Iraq
as solid as Al Gore's Presidential inaugaral dinner
as solid as Ottawa's Stanley Cup chance
as solid as Ottawa's CFL team
as solid as the ABA's business plan
as solid as the NIFL's promises'
as solid as the "no action" Jackson Wildcats refund policy for ticketholders
as solid as the New Jersey Meteors
as solid as the Delaware Stars
as solid as the Long Island Primetime
as solid as a 300 pound solid block of cement being thrown at a plate glass window.
ya its solid.

So, are you trying to say the USBL doesn't have a great future?
