Possible PBL team in Syracuse, New York. Pending approval of dates at the Onondaga Arena ( seats 6,000). No high school gyms in the PBL so far..probably wont be. Joe must be getting high blood pressure seeing Doyle do things right. Lets see which high school gym the Syracuse Bullies ( ABA) wind up playing at. If they play at all...I hear there are some problems with the bullies...its called, needing funds to play.

There was a quote from the Orange county owner that was hilarious, " we will start small by using a high school gym" LOL. FOr a rec league thats about right.

Remember when the New England Patriots started in the 60's, they played all home games at elementary school no. 16 in Boston. NOT !!..... LOL

I thought the Bullies were going to play at the Arena?...But you're right, the PBL WOULD be a much better fit.

The owner of the OC Gladiators is crazy. Putting a team up in a very remote location of Orange County where the residents of Aliso Viejo are just people that make over 85k per year the minimum as a household. That team is a better fit cities such as Santa Ana, Costa Mesa (Fairgrounds Arena) Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Golden West College, UC IRVINE, UC FULLERTON, Chapman, Concordia, Redlands, Vanguard (Colleges/Universities) also Orange County has a ton of things to do. look at the Anaheim Arsenal they pump the hell out of the team in the OC and people barely show up because theres the Ducks and Amusement Parks and fairs and the beach and an active sports life in regards of recreational youth and adult leagues of any sport.

It's actually Cal State Fullerton, but I agree completely with your assessment, having previously lived near OC in the past. The OC is an upper middle class-to-very wealthy area. Most of those people will show no interest in anything other than major league sports. You have to remember that the OC population is VERY materialistic and VERY status-driven. Going to an ABA game at a high school gym would be a social faux-paux for these people. You MIGHT have a chance if you play at a college in one of the larger towns where you have the college crowd, but playing in Aliso Viejo is not a smart move at all. This team will not survive its first year in the ABA.

I think Oxnard would be a MUCH better choice (Maybe it would be a better home for Las Cometas)

How come all this is in the ABA forum and not the PBL?

..I can't imagine Syracuse being a good market for the PBL "experience" or whatever they are calling it. The AHL survives against SU basketball by avoiding the dates as much as possible, the Crunch play a lot of home games before Christmas, and after March 1 to avoid as much of the SU season as possible.

After March 1 this past season, the Crunch had 12 home games. Their 2007-2008 includes bus games, with the exception of one swing (presumably) through Houston, San Antonio, Rockford, and Chicago, and two road games against Manitoba and Grand Rapids. They had substantial road games in January (six games) and February (five games) to avoid SU, and clustered home games around holiday weekends.

Smart strategy, but it's going to be harder for a direct competitor to do that.

I have thought the market might work for the USBL (if it is still going to exist in the future) if you could connect former/current Syracuse and Big East players into the team.

Any minor basketball in Syracuse is doomed because of what you note above. Unless the team consists of a bunch of former Orangemen starters (NOT the 11th and 12th players), a team in either league has midseason fold written all over it. No minor league, whether the PBL, CBA, ABA, or any spring league will ever work well in a city accustomed to D-1 NCAA hoops....
