Here's a nice little quote from the Corning Bulldogs' owner, James Schultz (abalive.com article):

According to co-owner James Schutz, "The team will be made up from the best basketball players that the NCAA D1 has to offer. We are currently in talks with former players from Syracuse, Georgetown, Drake, Arkansas, Hartford and Alabama Birmingham. Just because the best basketball players nationwide will be coming to Corning, NY doesn't mean ticket prices will be high. The Corning Bulldogs will offer fun, affordable entertainment for fans of all ages at affordable prices."

So I can expect your starting lineup to be Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, Brandan Wright, Al Horford, and Corey Brewer? According to ESPN.com, those are the top five guys that the NCAA Division 1 has to offer this year. -> Sign me up for some Corning Bulldogs season tickets!!!

James, be honest (I know that's a very hard thing to do in the ABA) and realistic. You're getting older guys on the downward end of their career, guys that maybe have had trouble with the law, or mediocre guys from high-profile schools. You are NOT getting "the best basketball players that the NCAA D1 has to offer." Stop blatantly lying to your potential fan base just to try to get a couple bucks out of them. Honesty in the long run will pay bigger dividends.

The claim about the best players D1 isn't the strangest thing about the realease.

The strangest thing is the decision to LIMIT season tickets to 200. My guess is that this is to try to create some urgency to reserve them, but it shows a lack of knowledge of what most ABA teams actually draw (which is 200 if they are lucky). Add that this team is playing in a very small, economically depressed area where hockey is king and that is must compete with local HS basketball, and I can't imagine that the Bulldogs will average 200 people TOTAL, let alone season tickets.

I wish James all the best and give him credit for bieing in this board. I hope I am wrong.

The reason for the limit of 200 for now is because we sponspred the Corning Community College Athletics Golf Tournament in which we gave away 25 season tickets and those winners turned around and purchased season tickets so their families could attend with them. At the Golf Tournament we also sold out of 125 half price tickets to the home opener. I wish all teams would implement ideas such as these , I hope I am not the only owner coming up with ways to generate ticket sales early.

Due to the early jump on things we are doing very well at this point but thank you for the concerns , it is nice to see you are interested. I hope other owners will look at this and get out and sponsor events in the community and get ticket sales going.

Best Wishes,

James - I congratulate and salute your early ticket sales and efforts! Selling 200 season tickets already puts you about 200 ahead of most other ABA teams at this point. Keep up the agressive work!

I also thank you for being on these boards and wish the Bulldogs all the best -I have alot of friends in Corning-Elmira and am planning to get to a game or two this season.

With Rochester gone Reading gone, and Buffalo probably dropping out (as well as the presumed failure in Syracuse), the Dogs may be the only show in Upstate NY or PA.
