Twas a wee bit chilly at yogi berra stadium last night for the game between the jackals and the skyhawks... by the time the game ended a little after 10, there weren't many people left in the stands.
I know the players aren't making much money... heck, i don't know how i'd manage to live making what they are... but i wonder what some of the guys cholesterol counts are after the season. now this isn't a knock on the players by any stretch of the imagination... simply an observation (these are young men who are busting their butts chasing a dream that a lot of us would give our eye teeth for)... but has anyone noticed that whenever there's an event like a pre-season barbeque or a player meet and greet that the guys eyes light up that there's food there?
I remember being at one of such events last season and a skyhawks player whom i had become friendly with over the course of the year (who is no longer with the team, but i'm sure this isn't a unique sentiment) said if he had known there was food there, he would have waited to eat. it just shows how far from the big time and the big dollars these guys are when that day's starting pitcher is salivating at the idea of a hot dog an hour before throwing the first pitch...
