Thursday May 17 6 -9pm, In NYC, at the sports club in the Rockefeller Center,
I was there.
I was going to type the responses, when I asked at least 20 members of the media, to . " what do you think of the ABA?"
Not one had anything positive to say...so Im not going to type anything that hasnt been posted here already. Just reaffirming that outside of Indianapolis, everyone knows the story.
What it looks like, is that a majority of the ABA owners, dont own a computer and dont read the newspaper.

A1- Honestly, I am impressed that anyone in the media even knew that the ABA existed. I would expect that many of them thought you were referring to the original league. Because there is such little exposure (and especially positive), anyone in the media would get their information online or if they bothered to attend a game in their hometown. And when they do (outside of Rochester, Vermont, etc.) they see too many empty seats and make their conclusion before halftime.
Mainstream media will never give minor league basketball any sort of coverage. That is a given. We shouldn't expect them to know much, if anything, about it. Especially in New York City. They don't even give the WNBA Liberty any sort of regular coverage outside a small story and a blurb or two. The Liberty have their home opner on Sunday and if it wasn't for one writer that asked me to submit a credential for him, I wouldn't have even known that they were playing. Other than the NBA, everything else is less than secondary.
The ABA has not done itself any favors by causing the negative attitude, but the media not caring about it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

People do know of the ABA. Especially the media. I know ESPN's Linda Cohn personally and I've asked her about this current ABA and she says its a joke and a sham of a league. The three letters have been destroyed. While this league is in the tank and still looking for TV exposure (who dares to do it is an idiot) theres leagues that are on tv or of one that is on Directv right now well as of yesterday 8:30pm to be seen by millions.
The league is really a glorified but more than less organized or structured recreational league. Joe, I know you have seen better organized and structured leagues at Sportstime USA or at Chelsea Piers and sorry to say with better talent.
Games at the Rucker don't get canceled the ABA games show up to the court and the sign will most likely say canceled or like i saw once CANCILED

Standard,
Really curious to hear what game was on DirecTV and what channel it was on.
I would expect that Linda Cohn would be the exception rather than the rule. If a poll was taken of all the anchors in Bristol, I would bet that less than ten percent even know the ABA is an independent minor league that has been around since 2000.
Minor league hoops only have a few blips on the radar screen other than the few select fans. The NBDL will have a media following because of its affiliation and coverage on NBA TV and NBA.com. The CBA because of its history. And the USBL because they have had a few unique players, especially names like Bol and Webb.
The ABA, IBL, WBA, etc. will live in anonymity. It will take a 7'10'' center to get one of these leagues back in the papers.

Thanks. Does this channel have a block when it is on? I checked it and receive the 'Channel not available' message on the top bar. The website is a bit tough for me to get info due to being in Spanish.
