Update: The ABA has just added Tampa Bay to the ABA 2008-2009 Expansion Team List. This is two years in a row that they have rolled over to the expansion list.

Before the season starts, I think 64 more teams are going to drop off your list.

And I'm undecided about these teams.
Wilmington has joined the PBL.

The ABA site posted a press release from the SeaDawgs a couple of days ago. Probably didn't want to tip their hand too soon, although it was pretty obvious from the posts on OSC that they were going to the PBL.

They now have 64 on their list, but that includes Big Valley and Miami who dropped out during last season, Wilmington, which has moved to the PBL and the Richmond Ballerz who moved to Norfolk and are listed twice. It sounds like the actual number is 60, but it really doesn't matter until late October anyway, when the schedule comes out.
It looks like Anderson is back, since they are looking for interns, not to mention former teams like NEPA, the legendary Georgia Gwizzlies and the Reigning Knights of Georgia. Something tells me not to take this list real serously. Sometimes I think these teams start and then stop like the fruit and hot dog vendors I see on my street on weekends.
I noticed that the Hollywood Fame is now gone. Is there any story to that, or was it just the usual ownership issues. There was a law suit amongst the celebrity owners, I believe, but I might be mistaken.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Fame are one of the teams moving to the PBL.

They must have seen this thread and removed the three former franchises. The ABA is now down to 54 teams.

Go ahead and count and come up with whatever number you can based on the ABA website. Then take that number and subtract it from itself. Then you'll have the true number of teams that will be playing in the ABA in this upcoming season.
Read the ABA SEC filing. They are going to run out of money by September. Who in their right mind would invest additional capital into this league to keep it afloat longer? No one!
The ABA will be dead in September 2007. The good teams will have bolted for the PBL or CBA, and the crappy teams will all just go silently into the night.

Figuring out if "pi' actually has an ending would be easier than trying to guess how many ABA teams will be left when October rolls around.

The 57 teams include Big Valley, Miami and Richmond who all dropped out before the end of last season. Anderson dropped out last season, but advertised for interns this off season, so I assume they are back.
Right now, I am counting 54, and like others have said, its probably much less than that. I'm sure there are many other teams that will drop out before the season starts, if it starts.

But it won't stop Joe from selling more market reservations.

NK is right, all these departed, defunct and Chapter 11 bankrupt franchises simply mean he can now start to sell the market reservation again.

Has anyone mentioned Ventura? They have been on this list for a year or more and no emails to that account are answered. Their website hasn't changed, ever.

Ventura has been on hiatus since they were announced. It's been three years.
With Reading and Oklahoma City joining other leagues, the league is down to 52 and counting....down.
