I am sorry but the USBL is very unprofessional. The USBL according to the St Louis Today and Cedar Rapids Gazette state that Floyd Irons will be reinstated today.

If this league took itself and it's fans seriously this would not happen. If a coach took his team off the court and packed up and went home in the NBA that guy WOULD NEVER coach in the league again PERIOD.

The USBL's unprofessional acting on this issue is unacceptable and actions of a bush league.

What did Floyd have a week off....Ooooo what a harsh penalty.

I'm a bit surprised by the length of the suspension. I didn't think he'd be out the entire season, but I figured it would be at least five games.

He pulled his team off the floor during a road game in which his team was on its way to losing badly to an expansion team attempting to win over fans.

He has to miss two games and is back on the bench.

That's not a bad trade.

According to Dennis Truax, director of PR for the USBL, Irons would be suspended indefinitely and would not coach again in the USBL as long as we (the current ownership) are around. I also recieved this e mail from Dennis on May 9th.

Steps are being taken to correct the situation that occured last night.

The coach and the Skyhawk organization will receive strick penalties and suspensions regarding their actions last night.

If you have any questions please feel to contact me at 203-877-9508, and we can discuss this situation.

I spoke with Dennis on the phone Monday, May 10th and was told that Irons would not coach again in this league. Hey Dennis, let me change the news article for you.....................

USBL SPANKS ST. LOUIS SKYHAWKS
HEAD COACH FLOYD IRONS

MILFORD, CT - The United States Basketball League, Inc. (USBL) handed down the most severe penalty in its 19-year history today, when it grounded St. Louis Skyhawks head coach Floyd Irons for six days for his conduct during the May 8th game against Cedar Rapids. Irons pulled his team off the floor with almost six minutes left to play in the 2nd quarter and forfeited the game to the River Raiders. More than 2,600 fans were in attendance at the game and all of them figured out that the USBL is bush league.

"This has never happened in the USBL, a team being taken off the court and forfeiting," stated USBL Director of Operations Ed Krinsky. "What Floyd Irons did was ok in our minds and will go unpunished. There was justification for his actions."

The USBL is also considering taking Irons lunch money and the Skyhawks organization will be fined a weeks allowance regarding the Irons actions of May 8th. He will still be eligible for Coach of the Year of course. The River Raiders will lose approximately $18,000, but that is good for an expansion team.

Not only does he not know how to spell it, I don't think he knows what it means either.

A River Raider Fan but not a USBL fan

I suspect "strick" translates into "we can't afford the lawyers to enforce a firing."

It's  , but  .

The USBL office needs to do whatever thet need to do to keep this idiot from coaching. He is on an ego trip and they should not allow this behavior to be condoned. The league must demonstrate its integrity at any cost, or it really will be in jepoardy of becoming the ABA summer league.

The ownership of Saint Louis obviously has no clue. I believe in loyalty, but I also believe in being responsible for your actions. And this guy should not be coaching, period!!!

Here is what may be the kicker of all. This was a pre-mediated move!! This wasnt a fly be the minute move, he told himself before the game that if the officiating is as poor and one-sided (in his mind) as they have been for the previous two, we are outta here.

A high school coach doing this is attrocious. If I were a professional player on that team, I would have said screw him and lets stay and play. These guys are the ones trying to get an opportunity to reach the next level and they wont when they are following this coach. They may be following their way to the unemployment line but thats it.

Sad things everyone believes that Coach Irons had a few days off. Truth is no such luck, he still was at practice, still at games coaching from behind the bench. So, what penality or slap on wrists did Coach Irons get? None!! He got the get out of jail card and still passed "GO" and collected his $200.00 while the River Raiders suffered a financial loss as well as fans shaking their heads trying to figure out what kind of League lets this happen.
