View Full Version : ARE THERE ANY NEW LEAGUES FORMING?
I am a regular user of this board. It seems like everone
is trying to start a new league these days. Does anyone
know if there is a possibilty other than the ones
mentioned of a new league forming. I would like to
see the UNITED PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE come back or
perhaps a revived version with the CBA permission of
the EASTERN BASKETBALL LEAGUE. In addition to this does
anyone think the ALL-AMERICA BASKETBALL ALLIANCE
could return? If it does the owner should use the teams that played in the league in the time of its tenure and not attempt to use the names of former IBL,
CBA, and USBL franchises.

It appears the ABA will have three or four divisions, each of which might have more teams that most leagues had last season. To basketball fans in the eastern and east central parts of the US, it will seem like new leagues have formed.

I think you will see the Carolina Basketball League reform or come back in a revamped status. If they dont come back, expect a new South Atlantic Basketball League to form.
The problem I have with start up leagues in basketball is the same in hockey. You have the same people always involved with the process and the vision of theirs is $$$. And in the same process they dont care if the teams get screwed or are even legit teams. Once you pay your league fee or franchise fee, you are at the mercy of the league.
Take the GBA, they were having a season in the Southeast a few years back and folded. Now the AABA is coming back and same administration is involved. My thing is stick with one and make it work. The WBA had some troubles leading to the season. I am not overly sold on the league, especially with troubling attendance averages, but they weathered the storm and are giving the product they have been telling us about since August.
I will go back on record and say that these leagues should just combine and regionalize. The WBA, AABA, EBA, and even USBL. The USBL wont do that because they would give up their $300,000 franchise fee. And no business man in their right mind would give up a franchise a year that helps establish budget. On top of that get $25,000 league dues each year.
ARE there any new developments with the AABA? CAN anyone
tell me where too find new information on it? WHAT is
the story on the reported SOUTH ATLANTIC BASKETBALL LEAGUE? DOES anyone think it will make it? Heard the ABA may be going to NORFOLK VIRGINIA next, Joe
NEWMAN says the HAMPTON RHOADES TITANS are an
inactive team there under the direction of DR. EDWARD
NICHOLSON. If the SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE forms where
will it put teams and when can we expect to see it?

To answer your question about what the South Atlantic League is, well it's nothing yet. We are waiting to see what John Jordan does with the Carolina Basketball League.
What we have are people who really would like to see basketball in the North/South Carolina area as well as Virginia. And if J. Jordan delivers that for 2005, then they will be happy. If not, we will look to move forward with and draft our league on paper, see if it is feasable and do it.
The one thing I can tell you is that South Atlantic League will own all of the teams in the league for at least the first two seasons. No trying to sell franchises to make a quick buck or screwing the fans out of solid basketball. Target cities are mainly up and down the coast and I-95. Areas like Hampton Roads/Va. Beach, Wilmington, Rocky Mount/Wilson, Jacksonville, Conway SC, etc. But like I said, that is down the road. If you want further information, email me at southatlanticbasketball@hotmail.com.
