View Full Version : Problems elsewhere
I read where the Gary Steelheads were given a pair of playoff wins due to a forfeit by the Jackson Wildcats, in the USBL. Jackson could not fulfill promises to provide a facility for the games. Mmmmmmmmmm

I don't think it was playoff wins but regular season wins. There is a link to a very well written article on OSC about the Jackson Wildcats first ever home game, the reporter showed up 90 mins before gametime and found a grand total of one single car in the parking lot. He then hung around and watched about 100 people wander up to the building finding it locked and a small sign that mentioned the game was canx.
Minor league basketball's problems aren't unique to any one league.

The only way to get these owners and the league to fly right is to boycott anything and everything ABA. What little interest there is will dry up and either this rec-league straightens out, or it disappears. These owners do not make any profit from this, so why not call Newmans bluff. He's the only one putting money in his pockey anyway. We will not play or attend games until Newman is out. Not that either of these things happen regularly anyway, but stand up to this yo-yo and his lies, cheating, scams, and con games. If you keep feeding the monster, stop complaining about how large he's getting. Do something about it.

This is what baffles me the most. With all of the known scams and underhanded dealings in this rec-league, how is it possible that new owners keep showing up and handing this guy money for a team? Lawsuits, unpaid bills, scams, teams disappearing, cancelled games, everything that could put a black eye on this rec-league. Teams playing on different sized courts? If this isn't a standard rule, then what is? When Newman says "fast paced", I think he's referring to how fast teams disappear without notice. As far as I'm concerned, new owners should show up to league meetings with their pants around their ankles, cause Newman has the magic Vaseline.........the ABA adds the sand later.

Do you really think the ABA's problems rub off on the USBL?
There might be deeper problems out in the ether.

Your comment is Priceless... :D
Gary showed-up. Jackson didn't have EMT's or stat keepers among other things. Gary wins.
We're still waiting on Albany to show-up for that make-up game in Pittsburgh. ;)

..I can't believe Ken is still kicking the CBA after what has happened to the USBL season. Basically half the USBL is out of business, and Ken is concerned about a snowed-out game from almost three months ago in another league.
The often Ken-bashed Apex Sportstainment is a model of consistency compared to the non-CBA expansion outfits dredged up by the USBL. The three teams they started played all their games (except one forfeit Minot got when Utah folded). The other team they took over on a week's notice lasted half the season, or about a full USBL season.

Oh, please don't get me wrong. The CBA is a dog, but the USBL is a dog with fleas (as I mentioned to someone privately about a year ago). I think I've been proven right on both counts. The strong will survive this year in the USBL and obviously next season there will be changes.
Maybe if Apex spent more money on one franchise instead of trying to run three or four teams, then they could attract talent that could actually get a NBA call-up. That's one of the problems I have with Apex. Spread-out like that they can only afford to do things on the cheap.

The Steelheads reintroduced their slick and official 2007 Souvenir program for the game against Brooklyn. No mention of Boston, Jackson, and Long Island this time around. Revised schedule and bios on the Sweethearts dance team also (Geez! They're all barely legal).
See! All is well in the USBL. Those problems never existed. I wonder how much of a collector's item the original 2007 Souvenir program is?

Either my computer is taking me to an alternate Internet or it's taking me to the same Internet and Dodge City needs to pay their web hosting bill.
