ACES INK FOUR MORE TO ROSTER

April 25, 2007 - Alexandria, LA - The Alexandria Aces of United League Baseball (ULB) announced today they have signed outfielders Evan Cherry and Palmer Karr, infielder Erick Mejias, and catcher Jose Umbria to their 2007 roster.
Cherry joins the Aces after spending last season with the Edinburg Coyotes. This will mark the seventh season for the veteran outfielder who brings with him a career batting average of .271. Cherry’s professional debut came in 1999 with the Lafayette Bayou Bullfrogs of the Texas-Louisiana League. Last year with the Coyotes, Cherry hit for a .283 average to go along with two home runs and 40 RBI.
The sure handed Karr comes to Alexandria having split time between Pensacola and Fort Worth of the American Association, and Laredo of the United League last season. In finishing the 2006 season with the Broncos, Karr hit .347 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in only 37 games. In just two seasons of professional ball, Karr has a .286 batting average with 17 home runs and 55 RBI.
Mejias, originally signed by the Texas Rangers in 1997, returns to the Aces this season marking his tenth year in professional ball. Last season, he hit .257 with two home runs and 58 RBI. Mejias has a career .256 batting average and has driven in 277 runs.
Originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in October of 1995 Umbria enters his 11th season in professional baseball. His entire career to this point has been with the Blue Jays organization, making it as high as AAA on two different occasions. A native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Umbria has a lifetime batting average of .239 to go along with eight home runs and 174 RBI
The Alexandria Aces are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is preparing for its second season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana. The ULB will play a 100-game schedule between May and August 2007. Opening Day for all of United League Baseball is May 8, 2007.
