Greetings!
I live in Baltimore where the side is based. I think until they play in the second division here (known as USL-1), they won;t generate much interest. I think a good side would do well in this market but Crystal Palace is not bringing a high profile player like Becks here.
I think your side will benefit as the US has many players who have great potential for development.
I doubt that it would be worth a trip overseas to see them play but if you come, let me know so I can introduce myself. I plan on attending many of the matches.
It would help develop soccer here in the US. We need the help sadly.

unfortunatley we dont have any major players like becks playing for our side in britain so we wont be able to send many over there, however one of the young lads we sent over recently is the son of an exengland striker (teddy sheringham??) and we are hoping he will turn out to be half as good as his dad!
i have checked out the cpfc baltimore website and see that they are offering season tickets for $100 how does that compare to other prices out there?
if you are going to be going to games id very much appreciate it if you could keep me up to date with how things are going, i could give you my email address and you could send me any information you get, or match reports etc??

$100 for a season ticket is a pretty good deal. It's about a third to a fifth of what an MLS season ticket goes for (depending on team and location in the stadium).

i see the team lost 4-0 to cleveland city stars this week, are the stars a professional club compared the palace's not being? how about the crowd, is 500 good for the first ever game? i guess crowds will increase over time as the locals get more used to the idea of a soccer team??

ugh less then 500 last night and 250ish at tonights game... Palace need to aggressively market, those numbers arent even good enough to field an average PDL side.

is it purely a first season thing, not really been promoted enough or is there a lack of interest in the area as a whole? do you think things will improve with time or is the team just gonna die on its ass?

Well, the Baltimore area has had 2nd division teams before and haven't been well supported. Contract this with a MLS side playing with good attendance 40 miles down the road in Washington, DC.
There has been little marketing of the side up until now. They need to change that at once.
I think the interest is there but fans don't know about the team.

Hi Bomp. its the shelts here from the other board. Good to see you hold Joe Newman in the same regard as I.
Irregardless. One of the problems I can see is Baltimore considers itself a major league city. The Ravens, the Orioles make a mindset of first class. Even though DC united is close I just don't think the Baltimore area will rally around the team that is a 3rd division side.
I think the worse mistake would be to go to USL1. Thats a money losing proposition. Bomp is right, CPBaltimore need to start marketing the team asap, if nothing else the same hardcore supporters of soccer would come out to see it. Baltimore supports indoor soccer very well so they are out there.

Hi Paul:
I think this proves that you and I have too much time on our hands. ;)
You know Paul I do like Newman's hairpiece though. I'd get the same exact one (If I was bald) and wanted to look like an idiot. :D
DC United does NO marketing in Baltimore which I think is a mistake. The southern suburbs have a lot of soccer interest.
I've seen nothing from Crystal Palace here.
Some teams make money in USL-1. It would depend on the lease and other factors

Saturday night's United Soccer Leagues Second Division match at Legion Stadium featured two teams in dire need of a first win.
Crystal Palace Baltimore attacked the Wilmington defense early and rode the effort to a 3-0 victory. The loss sends the Hammerheads to the bottom of the division standings with an 0-4-1 record as Baltimore left the cellar after its first victory.
"We didn't deserve to win," Hammerheads head coach David Irving said after the match. "That's as poor as we've played all year."
Trailing 2-0 in the 73rd minute, Wilmington was awarded a penalty kick, but Baltimore goalkeeper Brian dove to his right to stop the shot.
In extra time, Luke Ibbetson's shot, off Junior Zarate's corner kick, nailed the right post and bounded away. Crystal Palace cashed in immediately on the counter attack with a goal from Sean Rush for the final score.
"It's everything," Irving said. "It's a lack of confidence. It's difficult at the minute. They work hard, but sometimes working hard isn't quite good enough."
The Hammerheads managed two shots in the first half and struggled early to create chances inside the Baltimore box.
Irving was up and down around the bench, sometimes applauding and sometimes watching with frustration with elbows on his knees.
Crystal Palace (1-4-0) jumped ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute of play. A long ball was played down the middle and batted about briefly in the Hammerheads box before Sergio Flores found the net. Matthew Mbuta earned the assist.
By the start of the second half, the Hammerheads were not only looking for their first win of the season, but also their first rally.
It never developed, and Baltimore was able to extend its advantage to 2-0 off a corner kick in the 48th minute. Andrew Herman sent a ball across to the far post where Andrew Marshall finished the play.
"There's nothing going our way," Irving said. "But you've to keep making it happen and we're not making it happen. We were not at the races tonight for whatever reason."
Baltimore came into the match having scored one goal while allowing 10.
The Hammerheads will have little time to contemplate their fate, facing two road matches in the coming week. They will take on the Kings in Cincinnati on Thursday and will travel to Cleveland on Saturday.
so a first win for the crystal palace baltimore team!!

Can anyone in the Baltimore area send me a few 2007 Crystal Palace FC pocket schedules and a magnet schedule (if they made one)? I sent a SASE to the team at the start of the season and even e-mailed them, but not a response to either one. Please PM me if you can help me out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I run a new english news and forum site For Crystal Palace FC and have now added a forum for Crystal PalaceUSA, not having too much knowledge on the American Soccer scene I thought I would take an in depth look, and have found myself, slowly becoming more and more addicted, I would like to spread USA soccer over to the English following and wondered if any of you would like to help, As I have said I have opened a forum for CPFCUSA and I could also widen it and make a whole section for American Soccer covering all aspecs, all I need is a few posters, Ideas & suggestions, and of course American input, and in time possibly one or more moderaters to look after the section, Please feel free to have a look at the site, also you can pm me with suggestions, or if you would like to get involved, just register, its free, Hope to hear from you soon, take care ..... Pete
