Ask the CEO
04/19/07 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Question from Leonard C in Chicago (and others): "Will ABA games be on TV next season?"
Answer: Leonard (and others). There is nothing we would like more than to have the ABA on TV. We are talking with television networks, cable channels, and various webcasting companies about getting our games on the air. The popularity of the ABA style of play with its faster pace, higher scoring, full-court game is growing. Anyone who attends an ABA game knows that it captures the best of college, international and the NBA with very highly skilled players who play as a team rather than individually. When the 3-D lights go on, the fans go wild. The fast breaks are amazing, the back court defense exciting, the 3-point shooting incredible. It is just fun to watch. We will have nearly 1000 games this season, millions will have a chance to see the ABA in person. But we do want to have our games on TV and the web and are devoting much time and energy this spring and summer to make that happen. Keep your eye on the ABA website for details.

The only tv cameras that the ABA will ever see is when you know who is lead out of his kitchen in handcuffs on his way to the Gray Bar Hotel!!

And now, allow me to translate from Joe-Speak to English.
Question from Leonard C in Chicago (and others): "Will ABA games be on TV next season?"
Answer: Leonard (and others). There is nothing we would like more than to have the ABA on TV.
Especially if we don't have to pay for it, and especially if it's on a television channel that doesn't have the words "public access" affixed to it.
We are talking with television networks, cable channels, and various webcasting companies about getting our games on the air.
These are the same conversations we had with the NBA about having a Hurricane Katrina benefit contest that would have generated thousands of dollars for the ABA - and maybe a fruit basket or two for a Hurricane Katrina victim.
The popularity of the ABA style of play with its faster pace, higher scoring, full-court game is growing.
And shrinking as each week another ABA franchise hits the dust.
Anyone who attends an ABA game knows that it captures the best of college, international and the NBA with very highly skilled players who play as a team rather than individually.
Wow - so what you're telling me is that a team that would consist of Kobe Bryant, Yao Ming, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant and Greg Oden couldn't beat your average ABA squad? Unca Joe better stop sniffing that airplane glue...
When the 3-D lights go on, the fans go wild.
Most times it's because they think there's a sale at Aisle 15 at K-Mart.
The fast breaks are amazing, the back court defense exciting, the 3-point shooting incredible.
Right, because nobody's ever gone to a basketball game with a slow, plodding fast break, lumbering back court defense, and blase 3-point shooting. Of course, we don't know any of this because the ABA DOESN'T HAVE A STATS PACKAGE TO BACK UP ITS CLAIMS!!
It is just fun to watch.
So's lawn mower racing.
We will have nearly 1000 games this season, millions will have a chance to see the ABA in person.
Okay, folks, this is more "fun with mathematics" courtesy of your Unca Joe. Let's say that when Unca Joe means "millions" he means at least more than 1 million people. Let's say for the sake of argument that when Unca Joe says "nearly 1000 games" he means 1000. So essentially if you divide 1 million into 1,000 you get 1,000 people. Now is Unca Joe suggesting that every ABA team is going to average 1,000 fans a night - or is he saying there will be 1,000 new people showing up at each game? More weasel words from the ABA's top weasel.
But we do want to have our games on TV and the web and are devoting much time and energy this spring and summer to make that happen.
Right. Sitting on your tushie at McDonald's does not constitute "devoting much time and energy," weasel.
Keep your eye on the ABA website for details.
Same ABA-time, same ABA-channel.

He said " millions will have a chance to see ABA basketball".......Of those potential millions, I'm sure he can count on the usual 65 people per game. I have a chance to earn $1,500,000 at my sales job..........I WONT, but I have a chance !!

ABA We will have nearly 1000 games this season, millions will have a chance to see the ABA in person.
Now, this is what a league having millions of fans is all about - It's the NBA not the ABA!
NBA sets attendance record for third straight season
April 19, 2007
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA broke its attendance record for the third straight year, drawing more than 21.8 million fans during the 2006-07 season.
The league also surpassed its previous best by averaging 17,757 fans. The previous best marks were set last season, when the average of 17,558 fans led to a total of just under 21.6 million.
The top three teams in average attendance are all from the Central Division: Chicago (22,253); Detroit (22,076), and Cleveland (20,436).
Orlando, Portland, the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston all had attendance increases between 7 and 10 percent. The league had 600 sellouts, up from 471 last season and the most in over a decade.
"We are grateful for our fans' continued support," commissioner David Stern said. "The third straight year of record attendance reflects the NBA's ever-increasing popularity, as the world's greatest athletes continue to display the passion and dedication they bring to this great game."
The NBA last had three straight years of attendance increase during a four-year span from 1992-96.

What he said means all those empty seats have the chance to be filled....and that adds up to millions.
Its "Joe speak".....what I wouldn't give to get him onto 'The Factor' with Bill O'Reilly! (the no spin zone)

Well, when he says millions have watched the ABA maybe he should explain that 980,000 of those eyeballs came from fans in China tuning in to watch the Aoshen team (their games are televised to a small part of China).
