TWO FRANCHSIES DROPPED FROM 2007 USBL SEASON
April 17, 2007
By USBL
Milford, CT – (April 17, 2007) The United States Basketball League (USBL) announced today that the New Jersey and Long Island franchises are no longer operating for the 2007 season.

“The New Jersey and Long Island franchises are not able to meet the financial obligations to operate this year,” stated Ed Krinsky, USBL Director of Operations. “We must drop them from the schedule and move forward with the eight teams we have.”

The USBL is rescheduling games among all eight remaining franchises. The league is making a concerted effort to keep most home dates the same and change only the night’s visiting opponent. Currently scheduled games not involving Long Island and New Jersey will still be played until the league issues a revised schedule.

“There is no set timetable for all of these changes to take place, however Ed and the teams are working diligently to revise the schedule,” said Jacob Gordon, the league’s Director of Public Relations. “The United States Basketball League apologizes to the fans, media and team personnel for the confusion and delays that have resulted from this matter.”

Maybe it wasn't until today that the league realized those teams weren't there.

This just reminds me of the days of Mark McClure and his Texas RimRockers.

I have to give credit to the USBL for at least issuing a release on the teams that folded. In the ABA, NOTHING gets released unless it is about marketing. At least the USBL puts things out there.

Well, I bet they've had a month to prepare those three or four little paragraphs.

More impressive would have been having the common sense to get this figured out before the start of the season. The league had to see this coming.

It will be interesting to see how the Eastern Division teams schedules shake out. Those lose way more games than those from the Midwest.

Brooklyn vs. Albany about about 12 times isn't going to cut it.
