Bring it on!!! Man this could get the ole heart pumping. Imagine, slugging a pro player with a dodge ball. It's unreal. It was a great game in grade school.
This could catch fire in a hurry. This could be a game pro wrestlers could get into. Ya know, something for them to do when they get to old to wrestle.
What do you think? Vince may have picked the wrong sport.

Seriously, it could work. You use an existing basketball court with volleyball court lines already laid out. You use Rhino Dodgeballs (9 inch I think, do a Google search for them), yes I can admit I own 3 of them.
Teams will be six a side on the floor, like on my website, with maybe 3 or 4 on the bench. That's 9-10 per team, or 18-20 players per team splitting the costs.
Cost wise, it's about as cheap as you can get.

Somebody needs to get in touch with Spike TV about this. It may actually work!

Man, I did some serious research on this Dodgeball thing and it really might work. I can just imagine seeing "REAL" players playing this game.
You know, Arena Football started out this way.
This could be the second best game played on a basketball court.

I've got to admit I'd watch it but howwould you make it last long enough to be interesting? It needs to go on at least an hour and a half.

Well, I never actually set up a game under my rules.
In my system, there would be no best of series because that's too open ended and TV considerations have to take into account. Basically, it's a timed system unless one side of 6 is knocked out (3 outs per player, a sustituting player assumes the outs of the player he replaces), regardless of score. (Elements of cricket and boxing here.) I prefer this system because it actually is closest to the arcade version while being a legit game. (Can't seem to replicate turning commie Russians into angels like in the game.)
I could also just go with 3 periods of 20 minutes free running clock until major time stops and under 5:00 per period. Something like that.

Oddly enough, the dodgeball concept has been around for awhile. I've found several web sites that metion something about a "big version" of the sport.
I have found at least three associations, that are promoting dodgeball as a legit sport.
I think it will work and I think people will pay to see someone get splattered with a ball.
I agree the game needs to run at least 1 1/2 hrs to make it viable. I think it can be done.

The nepdl will start play in may of 2005.The league will have an 8 team set up in the first year. All games will be held in smaller arenas that hold 800-2500 fans. Each team will play a 12 week 24 game schedule.Players will make $125.00 per game and then in the play-offs the top 4 teams will take part in the champions cup witch will be held in new york city. The champ will get $20,000 and second place will get $10,000 this cash is to be ssplit by the teams. The league will have no tv contract for year on.
This league has been in the works for about 8 months now and still has some work to be done but everything is a go for 2005.If you have any questions ask away.

I think if you can find a way to cut it down to a one hour time slot it could be a great tv sport! (Better then Jessica Simpleton and Paris 'porn star' Hilton any day of the week.)

Looks like there are already plans to establish a pro dodgeball league. This is great.
Maybe if there are a few regional leagues formed, the champions of the leagues could play each other for a National Championship.
Let's get this going.

I think it has to be some sort of format where the game lasts right around 1:45. I don't see people paying to see any event that lasts just an hour.

I agree, the games will have to be around 2 hrs in length. It will make a good televised sport as well as a spectator sport.
Wouldn't make sense to play less than two hours.

Would you pick major league cities like Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, etc... or would you go with mid size markets like Tulsa, OKC, Little Rock, etc...
I would tend to go with mid size markets. I think that the game would get lost in major league cities. I would use the small markets as a feeder system.

The league that I am developing out of Orlando, is 8 teams, 2 divisions.
The league owns al lthe teams and the are not regional teams. With play being held in one arena. two games a night.
-best 2 out of 3 team 1 and team 2
-best 2 out of 3 team 3 and team 4
-With intermission between matches about 5-10 minutes
-15 minute halftime between games
Right now I'm just working on finances or a sponsor to help fund cost to get our own fieldhouse/arena (refurbished warehouse)

Up here in cold, old Michigan we're also thinking about a league. It's still in the planning stages but we do have a website up.

I can help you out some-
1. Is this a pro league or recreational?
2. If it's pro how do you plan to pay the players?
3. Do you have or plan to get insurance?
4. Where do you plan to play?
5. Do you have significant capital?
