Story from abalive.com today:
OLDEN POLYNICE NAMED HEAD COACH OF LONG BEACH BREAKERS
11-Apr-2007
Long Beach, CA -- The Long Beach Breakers, an ABA expansion team that begins play in November, named former NBA star Olden Polynice as the head coach. Polynice played 15 seasons in the NBA and was known as a great rebounder and tough interior player and ranks among the NBA's all-time leaders in offensive rebounds.
Carl Williams, team owner and general manager stated, "Olden brings a wealth of knowledge to the ABA and the Long Beach Breakers and we consider ourselves fortunate to have him as part of our organization. The teams in our division know the type of ball he plays - tough defense, strong on the boards, physical. We will be competitive."
------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all, what happened to the Long Beach Storm? I thought that was the name of the team to start play there next year? I never saw a press release to mention a change of name. Is this the same ownership group or a different one?
Does this team actually have a good finanical backing? I assume they have to have some money to get a former NBA player as their coach. Does anyone know where they are going to play? Hopefully it'll be the Pyramid.
