In World Basketball Association action from Thursday, April 29, 2004:


MACON (GA.) BLAZE 82, BRISTOL (TENN.) CRUSADERS 67: Macon (1-0) used a 20-10 fourth-quarter run to pull away from the host Crusaders (0-1).


Former Marshall star guard Ronald Blackshear scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in the final frame for the Blaze. Former Lee University (Tenn.) center/forward Rocky Lane added 18 points for Macon and former Virginia Tech forward Joe Hamilton hit all of his field-goal attempts and finished with nine points.


Bristol, the newest team in the league, was led by Zakee Wadood. The East Tennessee State product had a team-high 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Kevin Crosby, who spent time in the NBDL, added 13 points for the Crusaders and former Central Oklahoma guard Marlon Dennis netted 10 points.


ROME (GA.) GLADIATORS 77, RALEIGH (N.C.) KNIGHTS 72: Loyola-Chicago product Damien McSwine, who finished with 12 points, hit four free throws in the final 16 seconds to secure the win for the homestanding Gladiators (1-0).


Forward James Maye, a UNC-Greensboro alum, led Rome with 19 points and seven rebounds while former Atlanta Metro guard Richard Jeter had 16 points.


Former North Carolina State guard Anthony Grundy paced the Knights (0-1) with 14 points. Center Tim Washington, out of Bowie State, had 12 points and guard/forward David Young, who played at Xavier and North Carolina Central, chipped in with 10 points.
