Hey guys, sorry if all of this stuff has been asked before , but some questions I have

1. I am going to tryout for the Slippery Team on April 15th. Are FL tryouts legit or just money making schemes, in other words if u have talent should you go?

2. If they like you what happens next, a phone call asking to do a contract?

3. What are the contracts like...just from season to season or long term?

4. What is the pay range for a player in the FL...Just curious.

thanks guys..

any other info on try outs would be greatly appreciated!

Lefty-

Good luck on your efforts to make the Sliders. The manager there knows his stuff- he guided Evansville to the Frontier League championship last season.

The FL is legit. It's been around since 1993 and is one of the top two or three independent leagues in the country. I'm not sure about the money aspect; is there a fee to try out?

The talent level is pretty competitive if you haven't played pro before. There are a lot of guys with experience in the low minors and occasionally there will be guys in the FL who have reached AA or AAA ball.

Contracts are one year but the club has an option on players for the following year, much like the reserve clause before the era of free agency. (Oops! If you're young enough to play in the FL that was before your time!) Basically the team can tender you a contract for next season at the end of this season, and they have your "rights" so if you want to play elsewhere they have to be compensated or release you first. I'm not sure if they will offer you a contract on the spot or call you later. I think both happen.

The last I heard pay ranged from $600/month for a rookie to $1500/month for a veteran. Meal money is $16/day last I heard. Be aware that the Sliders will be traveling more than most teams.

Again, best of luck to you.

Hey Lefty,

Yeah, the FL is very legit. It's main focus is on the rookie players but it is very well run. It is one of the top three Indy Leagues in the country. The legaue has been around since 1993.

I think go_rascals put it best with the contract questions.

$600 a month for rookies, $1500 a month for veterans is the pay range. If you join the Sliders, get ready to pack up more often, because only a third of their season will be played at home.

I hope for the best Lefty!

The workouts should be simple. Of course, it's depends on the position you play so yeah, there should be specific workouts for each type of players. Should be the basics. Let us know if you have more questions. :)
