I know this could be done in another message board but since I am an owner of a basketball franchise I would like your direction. I want to invest in an indoor football team, which league is best before I shoot for the AFL?

NOT the NIFL which is a disaster equal to that of the ABA. I would shoot for AF2 since they are of course affiliated with the original AFL and are in smaller markets.

Just my two cents,

Fells is right. I wouldn't bother with the others. Unless you enjoy losing your shirt.

I just want to show wisdom and thinking about the AIFA because it seemed more stable than the rest. We had a team but it didnt do good and I just wanted to test the waters in another league to see if it will be received here again.

If you have to ask you don't have enough....

I'd recommend UIF, AIFA, WIFL, or CIFL. af2 and AFL will weed you out on the financials.

AIFA is the least stable of the leagues listed.

Whatever you do, DON'T do it on the cheap.

Since af2 has 5 teams in Texas..

Amarillo Dusters
Corpus Christi Sharks
Laredo Lobos
Lubbock Renegades
Texas Copperheads (Katy Copperheads from NIFL)

I don't know how much interest they would have in putting another team in Texas. Would keep down travel costs, though.

It's not travel costs, it's franchise fees (though the Texas Copperheads would preclude a Houston team). And I made my first post before seeing where he's located-its Intense or maybe APFL for you.

Not trying to be cheap but show wisdom on how much Im putting up and not looking for a way to lose it on a folding league. My first move was Intense, but they havent called me back after a week. I was told they are a good league but probably dont want anyone effecting his boys in Katy.

It really wouldnt bother them simply because of there location. It is on the far west outskirts of Houston near Katy and the arena will be built completely on the otherside of the city close to the airport.

there is a 75 mile territorial rights halo for each team in the arena family. That's why Texas would preclude a team. (Unless you plan to build your arena in the boondocks, which doesn't strike me as viable.) af2 also prefers to work with actual arena management groups like Global and SMG IIRC.

Cglue - you must be a glutton for punishment. First an ABA team and now an indoor football team?

If you have that much money to invest/lose, I'd buy a USBL team or a CHL team before anything else. Forget the ABA and indoor football.

id invest in a soccer team before that

Houston was not an expansion team. They were the San Jose Earthquakes and they only packed up their bags and relocated to Houston.

It sounds like this team would be located in Texas, right?

If so, the best leagues travel wise are the IFL and APFL.

Did you mention the letters "ABA" anywhere in your missive to them? Quite honestly, after further thought, the only leagues that probably wouldn't laugh you out of the the room when your ABA franchise ownership came up would be the Niffle, the APFL, and maybe the AIFA. (Oh...and it would come up with all the other leagues-they actually do due diligence on owners).

So what does that say about the nicely ran Intense Football League who has one of the expansion teams next season and ok, do you due deligence. I dont run from business just as long as it turns a profit.

I guess Dittman knows himself best, but I half expect him to unload it over the offseason honestly (won't exactly cost him a whole lot). My point was that most football leagues will see "ABA owner" and provided said owner isn't Rochester, they will assume that the owner is underfunded and a liability. They also will question whether there as a viable arena for indoor football that the owner can get a lease at.

I'm also saying that the only way to guarantee yourself a short-term profit is by doing things on the cheap, which is fatal in the long-term. It's not a bad thing if you're in the red the first year or two (provided you're in the red from marketing the heck out of the team and the fans are coming).

Thats why building trying to have my own so it will kill speculation of my power. "Kneel now indoor league peasants and wait to receive the wrath of the Houston Spartans, HHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!" LOL

BTW, that was a great movie.

Cglue, can you give us any details on your arena? Seating capacity? Style? Are there any artist's drawings of the place yet?

My question exactly. Is this actually a nice building or is this something Jim Terry would be proud of?

I have a layout right now and the architechs have just started the first phase of the plans. Seating capacity will be around 6500, 4 restrooms, 16 concession booths(8 on each side) and we have the appraisal already. The naming rights game has just begun which have been interesting meetings.

Cglue, best of luck to you. That sounds like an excellent seating capacity for a minor league arena. If you pull it off, hats off to you.
