For freak's sake, this team never catches a break.
It would not surprise me to see them done, leaving a wicked rescheduling problem... but one can only hope for the best.

it's looking more and more like that. The new (non) owner now claims the old ownership misrepresented the costs associated with running the team. Is it just me or is the cost of operations something he should have looked into BEFORE agreeing to purchase the team???

It's official. The Mariners have folded.
Frankly, it's a minor miracle that they've lasted as long as they have.

Not simply an article, but a letter from the league to the VB players published in the local on-line edition of the paper.

If the folding isn't bad enough, this brutal piece of information could be a wake-up call to USL... or perhaps illuminates that good credit checks MAYBE depend on who's got the pull to do a good one.

Let's face it. Frank Marcos isn't a whole lot different than Joe Newman. Before the USL allows a sale, he should have done a background check.
The USL is a mess.

I thought Marcos was out of the game. Doesn't Umbro own the league?
Marcos (when in charge) could have simply dropped the price and tried to get more investors. USL went away from that. I suspect that background checks cost a lot... so the USL habit of high (supposedly $300,000 for USL-1) entry fees usually shakes out the riff-raff. What they need to do is slap a bill on any new owner... never get yourself mired in the "I'd buy that for a dollar" jokes.
