The Vision concluded their home schedule last night, losing to the SeaDawgs 108-104. Lorenzo Lawrence's desperation half court heave missed its mark. We had another 300 fans appear on appreciation night. Everybody had a great time.

Wilmington is a team that has won its division and will be headed to the playoffs. Atlanta has had a rough year. The game was really pretty much decided and the ramifications of the game meant far more to Atlanta than to Wilmington, NC.

During the last 5 minutes of the game, Coach Kevin Whitted decided to start yelling at the scorer's table to "get security, someone's going to get hurt". The man lost all composure over some calls late in the game. I was embarassed for himself, his family, and his organization when he decided to charge at an official after the game. The man has no class and is a discredited to his team and the league. His attitude carried down to his star player, Cedric McGinnis, who decided to spend more time trash talking the Vision bench than playing basketball. After his performance at the Allstar game, is it any wonder why D League teams elect not to call Cedric up? Its not for lack of talent, but lack of maturity.

There were kids crying after the game last night because of this episode. The SeaDawgs won the game. The game had no implications for them. I hope that team owners, Peter Gratale and Mark Janas find a better pair to work with next season. With the amount of talent on their team, I could Coach the SeaDawgs to the playoffs.

I apologize for my "rant". There is so much on my chest after last night I needed to blow a little steam. This is my first year in the league. I am a part owner (10 percent) of the Atlanta Vision. I do not post anonymously. I am so incredibly proud of what Quentin and Akilah Townsend have built. We have visited many schools, day cares, and have really made a positive impact to many people in the community. Our organization is not lavish. We have a business model of efficiency that works. While we pay our players and coaches what I consider a "stipend", in my heart I know that these guys are working for the "opportunity". The ABA is not a career. Our guys practice form 6:30am to 8:00am and then head to their real jobs. I have the utmost respect for them and I hope that the opportunity will pay dividends.

We have a few more road games and then we will begin focusing on next season. Atlanta will be back stronger than ever.

While the ABA has its problems, I promise to do everything I can to make Atlanta part of the solution. That means...1) Play every home game. 2) Provide lots of community service. 3) Keep our promises to the fans, players, coaches, and opposing teams. 4) Run your team for the entertainment of fans with a sound business model. If a team is drawing less than 300 fans a game and is paying its coach $70K and rents a bus for $3000/day on road trips...then that team is probably not going to be around long.

Public threads like this one, help me understand the frustration that many of you have encountered. I am disappointed in many of the decisions made recently by the league office. I believe that there are too many decisions being made without regard to ramifications. Both parties in the dispute have too much at stake. Neither party can run the league without the other. I don't want to pretend nor imply that I know everything about the dispute, but I do know that when its over, they will have to work together. This dispute should have been kept quiet, not public.

Robert Martin and Kevin Hairington are two special players that I believe are being overlooked. I hope that this year helps them move on to promising careers. Coach Bruce Kreutzer....I am extremely proud of what you have accomplished with your players. We may not be going to the playoffs this year, but we will build on what we have accomplished this year and take it to the 2007-2008 season.

Thanks to all!

First off, as a part owner, I can understand you want to apologize. But if you want to do that, there should be some kind of statement on the front page of the Vision’s web site that makes the apology to the fans for their experience last night and that this is not indicative of all ABA players and coaches. I also think you, and the other owners of the team, should contact Wilmington and voice your opinion of their conduct last night. In return, they should also post an apology on their website to the Atlanta fans. The last thing you want is to have fans be permanently turned off from attending Vision games.

An ABA rule is “There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for taunting & baiting”. But, when was the last time the League actually enforced their rules? We have had a couple instances of ‘problems’ at Frost Heaves games. One game had a Montreal player slap Kelvin Parker, and we had Randy Gill, from the Maryland Nighthawks, taunt the Frost Heaves bench several times during their game against us in Burlington (I know this because I was on the bench as 13th man). But our home games have gone very smoothly, without incidents (bad refereeing aside).

Conduct like this has no place in any league.

All good stuff Sleeper. There was an official from Friday nights game at the scorer's table when Coach Whitted "lost it". The officials have requested DVDs of the game to send to the league and they will write a report and send it in. There certainly is "no place" in any league for a head coach to threaten an official. However, I concur that I do not expect the league to do anything.

After the game, I spent a lot of time at the exits apologizing to our fans and thanking them for their support.

This Tuesday and Wednesday the Vision travel to Wilmington. We are only playing for pride at this point. The playoffs do not appear to be an option. I do hope to travel to see some of the games however. I would love to see a FrostHeaves or Nighthawk game.

Unfortunately, I agree that little to nothing will be done. A coach physically attacked a referee last year, and the 'official' league response was:

Maybe under new leadership, but nothing will happen during the Kitchen Cabinet's regime.

Why The Vision made the coaching change for this year!

I hope Coach Whitted makes a formal apology to all ...

Well, it seems as though you were at the game, but you did not complete the story. Let me help you. The head reefer was calling horrible calls to the point were the jr refs were questioning him. Also, the head coach for the Sea Dawgs did not charge the ref he walked to express his disgust and never was able to. With his attempt to go to the locker room, your perfect owner Mrs. Akilah Townsend physical assaulted the head coach by throwing a pom pom in his face and using foul language. Also, her father charged the head coach and Cedric McGinnins as they were again trying to get the locker room. Now, does sound like perfect behavior for what you call an upstanding organization that works so hard in the community. That is a joke. Regardless if the coach yells at the a ref and voices his/her opionion of how a game is being called that is between the ref and the coach. If Coach Whitted was so out of control, why didn't the lead ref (who called the Friday and Saturday game  ) eject the coach from the game. What happened at teh end of the game was fueled by the Vision. Again, make sure you show both sides. Sorry, there were no children crying.

Wow, Akilah Townsend getting into the mix ...

[What was the Head Ref's name?]

The SeaDawg fiasco was after the game. With 5 minutes left, your Coach told the scorer's table to get security because somebody was going to get hurt.

When Coach Whitted dropped about five f-bombs, then yes, Mrs. Townsend throught a pom-pom? Is Coach Ok? I'm really worried that it might have hurt him.

This whole thing was started by the Coach. The whole thing was escalated by the Coach. The Coach's attitude has spilled over to his bud--Mr. McGinnis. You are naive if you think that any of this would have happened regardless of Coach Whitted attitude.

There were some calls that went our way in the end, but Wilmington had the game won. To say that "we paid off the refs" is a childish. The refs called a fair game and were not part of the outcome. This is basketball...the hardest sport on planet earth to officiate.

Magic, I don't know what the Head Refs name was. I do wish I would have learned more of their names this season. Luckily, one of the refs from Friday night was at the scorers table at witnessed the tirade.

Nice to see "B Ball Lover" with ONE post drop some comments. :) I wonder who that could be...mmmmmmm

You are correct my first post because I had to make sure that no one believe your crazy story. Those who were not there need to know both sides of the story. Again, regardless of words no one has the right especially an owner to through an object or put there hands on another person. Mrs. Townsend walked around the crowd to confront the Coach. If she was a true lady she would have never gotten involved at all. Being concerned after the fact is nothing. Has she called to apologize? You seem to know so much, let us know that. Further more, the ref from the night before being at the table was not right. He should have been in the stands with the other fans. Mr. Patterson, it is things like this that make one question the actions and the perfect business model of the Vision. As for Cedric McGinnins, he was confronted as he was walking to the locker room. He never confronted anyone. Please do a little research and make sure you have all of your facts straight before you attempt to point fingers.

The apology needs to come from the Management team of the Atlanta Vision.

Maybe both sides should issue apologies then ... and be done with it.

Game On ... Tonight and on Wednesday.

is a good thing to have, but it should really extend to the teams as well. What difference does it make if you have these policies when you have teams that don't play their games time and time and time again? It's kinda like putting the cart before the house.

Blaming the refs (no matter how pathetic they might seem) also is not good.

DBallLover...oh excuse me... I mean BBallLover, I was there....up front and personal. I have apologized to our fans for the situation caused by you and your team.

You said no kids were crying? That's probably because you had your head somewhere else. Cedric was trash talking our bench. I was there. I saw it. The refs did too.

Take off the rose colored glasses...you may see some reality.

Coach Whitted started it and escalated it. Only you would dispute that. If he calls Akilah, I'm sure she'll apologize. How's he doing with that pom pom hit? Did he need a band-aid?
