Imperials to compete in First Annual North Atlantic Basketball Championships
03/01/07 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Palm Beach Imperials

West Palm Beach, FL. Today, the Bahamas Pro Show, operator of the Bahamas' premier basketall league and the ABA Palm Beach Imperials, members of the Imperiali Organization, have announced their intent to proceed forward with the 1st Annual North Atlantic Basketball Championships (NABC).
The Palm Beach Imperials are one of the outstanding ABA organization and are getting ready to compete in the ABA playoffs this month. The Bahamas Pro Show is the premier sports operator in the Bahamas and lobbied for the championship to be held in the Bahamas. Mr. Smith, a spokesman for the tournament stated, "I think the Bahamas is a natural fit to host the tournament. We have excellent sites for tourism and have been actively promoting international involvement in our country."

The Bahamas have been home to several well known professional basketball players including former LA Lakers star Rick Fox. "The reason for organizing the vent is to bring the excitement of basketball back to the Bahamas. We have great players and our children love the game in the Bahamas," added Smith. "Hopefully we'll have a teams from Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico participating." After the tournament, the Bahamas national team will participate in an exhibition tour that will take them to the US to play.

The event is scheduled to take place June 28th-31st and will incorporate sports, entertainment, and celebrities to attract spectators for the event. "I believe it's a great cause," stated Dan Mangru GM of the Palm Beach Imperials. "Basketball is the fastest growing sport in the world. It also brings people from all walks of life together. Whether you are a tourist, a stay at home mom, a young child, an investor, or just a sports fan, I think that everyone can enjoy the quality of basketball that we will bring to the Bahamas."

Mangru also felt that the Bahamian community can rally around the event. "Having the support of the local Bahamian people and the local organizations will be essential to the success of this event. This could be a new tradition for the islands of the Bahamas and we see great potential for huge success in working with the people of the Bahamas, as well and the government and local businesses."

Enough typos to fail an entire class of 3rd grade essays, and a quote by 'someone' named Mr. Smith - no first name, no title...

Even so, I want to be first in line to buy tickets for the final day. My schedule is clear for June 31.

Wow...

Truth IS stranger than Fiction...

IMPERIOLI FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!! ::: Giggle ::: ::: Snurf ::: ::: Guffaw ::: at least his grammer is better than G.W.B. (No to the New York and New Jersey readers I dont mean the George Washington BRIDGE). Excuse me while try and find out if the game will be played in honor of Anna Nichole SMITH... Maybe the Mr. Smith they are talking about is in reality Howard K Stern...
Hmmm Will the trophy consist of her Gold Plated Bustier and a pair of basketballs? And will it be SMALL enough to hold up the basketballs?

BBF is in shock about projected championships

By KELSIE JOHNSON, NG Sports Reporter

kelsie@nasguard.com

Executive members in the Bahamas Basketball Federation (BBF) were in shock yesterday, after learning that The Bahamas had agreed to host the North Atlantic Basketball Championships (NABC).

The NABC, which is affiliated with the American Basketball Association (ABA), has scheduled their playoff series and championship games in The Bahamas from June 28 - July 1. But, according to reports reaching The Nassau Guardian's Sports Desk no such dates have been penciled in on the BBF's calendar. In fact, the BBF had no prior knowledge about the event.

The arrangement which was released on the ABA's website yesterday came as a shocker for 1st Vice President Larry Wilson.

According to Wilson, "as of this point no one has approached the Bahamas Basketball Federation regarding this so we (the federation) have not sanctioned it.

"Until such time, that's if they come to us, we don't see this happening."

The press release on the ABA website also has the Bahamas Pro Show as the premier sports operator in The Bahamas. The Show, which got started last year without the BBF sanctioning the league, had a membership of six teams playing for a $10,000 prize. Since the opening, only three games have been played, with no definite answer as to when it will resume. The website also has quotes coming from a Mr Smith, the spokesperson for the tournament.

In one quote Mr Smith said: "I think The Bahamas is a natural fit to host the tournament. We have excellent sites for tourism and have been actively promoting international involvement in our country."

This quoted statement left Wilson in disarray, since there is no member of the BBF executive board with the surname of Smith. On the other hand, a Mr Ricardo Smith heads the Bahamas Pro Show league.

Wilson said: "I am just seeing this on the Internet for the first time, but if what is printed on the net is true no one from the Bahamas Pro Show or anywhere else has gone to this length and taken any type of action to arrange any type of championships being played in The Bahamas without coming to the Bahamas Basketball Federation then yes, they have gone too far and now the Bahamas Basketball Federation will have to address the situation.

"This will have to be in conjunction with the Bahamas Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Housing.

"Anytime we are talking about any foreign element coming to The Bahamas to do anything with basketball it has to be sanctioned by the federation. In times gone by we had one or two things slip through but we are trying to tighten up on that so that things can be done in a proper manner, but anytime a foreign element comes here, whether it be a coach, an official, players and teams coming to do a clinic, or whatever their interest might be, they should come through the federation."

Wilson also revealed that this same law is set in place for any Bahamian basketball player or team leaving the country to play in a tournament aboard should come through the federation.

Although the NABC has a green light on their end, it seems as though their playoff and championship series will conflict with the BBF's plans. The BBF will be in middle of national training for both the senior men and women's national teams and the junior boys national teams.

The senior teams are expected to travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the Caribbean Basketball Championships, but Mr Smith has a different agenda for The Bahamas' national teams. In his quotes, he wants The Bahamas' national teams to play several exhibition games.

Mr Smith was quoted saying: "After the tournament, The Bahamas' national team will participate in an exhibition tour that will take them to the US to play."

Wilson, who wanted to investigate the matter fully, said "The Bahamas should not worry if the tournament doesn't take place or creating bad blood with any foreign teams."

His solution to the problem at hand is communication, and according to Wilson "when the proper procedures are followed then all questions that left unanswered will be cleared."

Clap Clap Clap ... Well done Imperiali Organization, Well done!

Hey Joe Newman ... Do you ever seriously think about engaging due dilligence when one of your ABA affiliated teams is interested in being directly involved, and associated with an INTERNATIONAL SPORTING EVENT where NATIONAL BASKETBALL FEDERATION GUIDELINES may apply?

Newman & Co. have no clue what-so-ever ... The whole lot of you need to go!

You mean Tom Shyster?

Maybe Joe should get together with the new owners of the NISL's Orlando Sharks? http://www.misl.net

His first name is Sham.

Sham should call Joe about a franchise.

A match made in heaven! :D
