On this very website, here is the description of the Newark victory over Brooklyn.

" the Newark Express put together a 4th quarter surge that ultimately produced the final score."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most if not all 4th quarters produce a final score?

I just love these descriptive accounts of meaningless rec-league games.

The Sharks chomp opponent
The Slam slam opponent
The Rollers roll opponent
The Takers take opponent
Joe screws new owners........ooops !! How'd that get in there??!!

That a large # of teams do not have "writing professionals" on their staffs ....

So instead of starting meaningless threads like this one ... Why don't you just correspond with the ABA League executives on a daily basis ... and keep the conversations to yourself. I don't believe any sports league needs your take on things!

Seeing as how this is a public forum, I will continue to express my views, takes, and any other opinion I might have. Forget about professional writers......most 3rd graders could come up with something better than this rec-league crap.

As to my threads being meaningless, if I could manage to piss off at one of you brain dead ABA zombies, I'm happy. I guess free speech only applies here if its something you agree with. My thread might be meaningless, it might not be. You were the first to respond...........so who you crappin'?!!

I was merely responding to your criticism of WHAFan's attempt to have a discussion on the lack of writing porfessionals that minor league teams employ. As a sports journalist of 12 years and a marketing person for the last 6, I am truly annoyed by the lack of professionalism that teams use in conveying game information to fans. Releases such as the one posted by Newark are written by amateurs who typically show little knowledge of the game or sport. It shows!

As far as your box scores, I apologize. I was trying to find a discussion and had to sift through several posts in doing so. Post away!

sportsguy12 ... and no need to apologize ... just so that you know, I help preeths by reporting in ABA scores for games. A good # of games are those which have not been reported as scheduling updates. It's a positive thing, because the ABA standings; as we have seen; have been incorrect for most of the season.

Honestly, WHAFAN can post whatever he wants ... but his posts are just regurgatation of what we already know about the ABA ... and it's not really about discussion.

If we want better writing ... then we need to send suggestions to the ABA and it's member teams about conducting "professional sports-writing" sessions at the ABA AGM or AOM.

Or better yet ... Make a contact to the team and offer some advice to help them do things better.

Now, we have a discussion ... "How can we improve PR at the ABA team level?"

Thanks for making amends ... I enjoy posting on this board and my comments were not to be offensive because I do respect a lot of what you write on here.

At any rate, I think the problem with the ABA and minor league sports is that they don't have experienced people in these positions. The reason for that is they can get an intern or something even less and pay them next to nothing. Also, marketing doesn't directly generate revenue as say a sales position would. So they use salaries to pay their sales folks.

I totally disagree with this tactic. I think teams that have broadcasters of any sort (radio or web casts) put out better releases because these guys wear multiple hats.

Before we can improve PR for the ABA, the owners of the league have to improve themselves.

with you there ... and it would almost certainly help the owners ... if there was an ABA executive at the PR/MEDIA and MARKETING levels to help assist those inexperienced team ownerships make the necessary implementations to get their organizations to the level that they need to be practicing and perfecting the trade.

That's what leadership is all about ... and the non-existent effort and lack of expertise exhibited (or not exhibited) by the ABA excutive branch is a pure example of why this league is failing!

What do you want them to write? Slam win game? Rollers lose game? That's an exciting headline.
