This kind of publicity is worth 1,000 press releases from the organization.
Clearly the owners have tailored their team to the surroundings, with cowbells and the like. That is the beauty of minor league sports, the team can interact with the community on a more reasonable level than a group of millionaire players (though talented) who are more walled off from the community.
The Minot Sky Rockets played the local Air Force Base team an exhibition game on post, and spent time after the game with the soldiers. A major competitive challenge? Doubtful. The SkyRockets are doing reasonably well in a small market, though, for some of the same reasons as the Frost Heaves. I am sure some of those Air Force guys are buying tickets now.
Same with the Yakama SunKings and the tribe. It's their team, in more ways than one.
