Sha-Ron Edwards who has played the last two seasons for the RiverCity Rage and who led the NIFL in rushing in 2006 was drafted by the Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europa League and will head to camp in Orlando, Florida in March. Edwards was a former Illinois State star who led the Gateway Conference in rushing as a senior.

Edwards was one of 2 RBs selected in the free agent draft by the Thunder with one additional back being assigned to the Thunder by the Cleveland Browns. Competing with Edwards will be Chris Barclay from Wake Forest and Damien Rhodes from Syracuse.

Thats some great news I wish him the best. In the article it said that he led the league in rushing and in rushing TD. True he did win the rushing title he was at least third in rushing TD 9 behind league leader Roland Hayes of the Beaumont Drillers. SCORING (TDs) Team G TD Rush Pass Ret PAT Pts Pts/G

You cant tell by the NIFL stats, Wilmont Perry is missing a few games. Im sure there are several players with the same situation. Edwards is a good back, hope he does well.

In the Berlin Thunder's first exhibition Game Sha'ron had 6 carries for 47 yards and was the teams leading rusher. The coach said he was impressive. Great player, great guy.

Chris Barclay, from Wake Forrest, the allocated running back from the Cleveland Browns was the leading rusher with 55 yards on 7 carries, however ShaRon Edwards did carry for an equally impressive 47 yards on 6 carrries. Both backs averaged 7.8 yards per carry. So it looks to be a two man race to get the starting job for the Thunder.

Edwards is a 6'-220 lb. back while Barclay measures in at 5'8"-178. Both are different style runners, but both can be equally effective.

There are still two more scrimmages to go before the training camp breaks at the end of March, but it looks like ShaRon is representing himself well at this point.

Edwards credits his signing and playing two years with the Rage as being the best thing, to date, that has happened in his career. He says that it helped with his running style, as well as helped him develop his pass catching skills.
