With very little fan fare, the Miracle released their 2004 season roster yesterday. The roster appeared on their webset (http://www.miraclebaseball.com/roster.php).
It's an interesting mix of old and new with Scott Baker, Josh Grey, Kevin Cameron, Francisco Liriano, and J.T. Thomas joining returnees Matt Yeatman, Travis Bowyer, Justin Olson, Jason Miller, Marcus Moseley, Jeff Randazzo and Erik Lohse on the mound.
Bryan Kennedy and Jose Morales, who both saw time behind the Miracle plate will share the catching duties this season.
The infield and outfield is nearly completely revamped however. Garrett Jones returns to guard the Miracle first base and speedy hawaiian Kaulana Kuhaulua will hold down second. Brent Tamburrino is the only familier face in the outfield, and he will start the season on the DL.
Top infield prospect Jesus Merchan, who was batting .296 last season with 53 RBIs, is among the position players received from Quad Cities, as is Trent Oeltjen, an Australian outfielder who was ranked as Quad Cities best all around player by mwlguide.com (http://mwlguide.com/).
Utility infielder Danny Matienzo, who also an accomplished catcher, hit 15 homer runs for the River Bandits, and will look to put a few over the Hammond Stadium wall this season.
Rounding out the infield is Omar Burgos, who had 102 hits, 45 runs and 33 RBIs, and Felix Molina, who recorded 65 hits, 33 runs and 25 RBIs. Burgos, from Maturin, Venezuela, was one of the top base stealers in the Venezuelan league in 2001.
Handling the outfield chores with Oeljten, will be Doug Deeds, Garrett Guzman, Ron Perodin, and Alex Romero. Romero, from Maracaibo, Venezuela, had 125 hits, 50 runs and 40 RBIs and was ranked 13th on Baseball America's top Twins prospects prior to the 2003 season. Guzman had 84 hits, 44 runs and 33 RBIs in 82 game with Quad Cities last year. Perodin had 25 hits and 16 runs in 35 games with the River Bandits.
A roster with profiles on the players is available at Are you ready for a Miracle? (http://www.geocities.com/fmmiraclegal/roster.html)
