The Buffalo Silverbacks are considering moving from Buffalo to Elma NY to be closer to a Boys and Girls Club. Sounds like a good idea. Impoverished boys and girls typically have a huge disposable income to spend on an amateurish rec-league basketball team. I'm still trying to figure out how owners pay their bills when 90% of the tickets are donated, and still the stands are empty. The teams project is "Do your best, never quit". It should be, "get the hell out of the ABA before we're living in a shelter with the boys and girls".

If I ran a business, I'd want to leave the Chicago metro area and set up shop in Bucktooth IL. Sounds like a good move..........

Ok most of you know im the guy from Buffalo, and let me just say this, the Silverbacks can draw more people in the Southtowns than the city itself. If your not familar to the Buffalo area, more people live north and south of the city, in fact some of the biggest high schools in all of Buffalo are in the Southtowns(where i live lol) And if they move to the Southtowns, most likely its not going to be in Elma, they're just doin it there because of what you said with the Boys and Girls club and the high school theyre playing at is prolly letting them play there for a small fee instead of the larger fee at the college they've been playing at all year, so i look at it this way, theres more people outside of Buffalo, the people of the city obviously dont care much about the team due to the attendence and if you do alot of work with the community outside of the city you mine as well try something new considering they only have 2 home games left and remember if they only got about 500 a game in the city, you mine as well see what kind of support you can get where most of the people on Western NY live.

They're not going to draw eff-all no matter where they play if they don't actively market and actively sell tickets.

Do they have actual sales people? Or do they just rely on the "Open the doors and hope people show up" school of marketing," like most ABA teams?

the Buffalo Bills (nfl) team doesnt play in the city just thought id mention that lol, but the city of Buffalo---to sum it all up in every aspect its a MESS, thats why most of the population is outside the city and i think the 'Backs could do just fine if not way better than they were in the city

They try but money isnt always there to advertise like in the headlines of the paper and what not but they do get coverage, like the day when they annouced they'd be playing some where else, a decent size article was in the paper the next day and the paper always tells the scores of each game and the leading scorers, but even if they did market as much as possible its still hard to knock off the Sabres(nhl-best team in hockey on paper, but dont play like it) and the Bills (nfl) and by all means they dont run their franchise like, ooo its 6:00 lets open the doors and see how many people we get, they try and do everything possible to get people to come eventhough they only avg 500 per game

heres the article the day after the venue change:

trust me its hard to compete with the Sabres since theyre actually good and evryone has jumped on the banwagon, Western NY is hockey crazy, even the college bball attendence is down, once the good ol NBA Buffalo Braves left basketball has never been the same around here, hockey and football took over and continue to rule, the only time bball is a hype is when the NCAAs come like this year and back in 04, but other than that its mainly just hockey and football, even more people like lacrosse in this area, we got a pro team that draws 12-15k a game and all 3 of these teams play around the time of the 'Backs
