The XHI Story
Xtreme Hockey International Inc. was transformed from a hobby, into an exciting new business venture when President Mike Killbreath and his partners envisioned changes on the horizon for the hockey world during the late 1990's. They got busy and began creating two unique leagues. They hope to carve a permanent niche for themselves within the hockey world with their new products.
The IIHL currently serves as the only A-level league on the minor league ice hockey ladder. Big League Roller Hockey will soon become the only national professional league for the growing new sport on wheels. Owners of Xtreme Hockey International Inc. hope to steer both new ventures to successful positions in the hockey world with a dynamite team of operators they've attracted.
The company's beginnings developed during promotion of amateur roller hockey events. The company was co-founder of new amateur roller hockey leagues known as Hurricanes Hockey Association and Great Lakes Roller Hockey Association, helping organize the first high school state championship tournament in Michigan.
Teams playing under the banners of Mid-Michigan Hurricanes, XHI Hurricanes, Michigan Hurricanes and Rollhaven Hurricanes have racked up numerous League, State and Regional Championships. A 1996 National Runner-up Finish led a dozen top 10 national finishes. The program also sponsored Grand Blanc High School's 1997 Tier I State Championship.
Creating Michigan's first Junior A league for roller hockey in 1999 was followed by the Port Huron North Americans becoming co-founders of the world's first Major Junior roller hockey league. The North Americans played on a new plastic, sport-court surface installed at the 3,800-seat McMorran Arena in Port Huron. GM/Head Coach Mike Killbreath attracted top players from around the USA as the only American entry in the Ontario-based Great Lakes Major Junior Roller Hockey League that began play in 2000. The league will begin its fourth year of operation this summer. The program also got another feather in its cap during the summer of 2000 when the Michigan Hurricanes won a second straight Junior A State Championship in the Michigan Inline Cup.
The company also brought a Junior A ice hockey franchise to Bay City, Michigan as co-founders of the Continental Hockey Elite Hockey League (CEHL). The CEHL will begin its fourth season of operation next year as the USA's only independent Junior A league. The CEHL allows an extra year of eligibility by allowing players to play until they reach age 22.
The company also sponsored a pro series for some of the world's top roller hockey players during 2000 and 2001 to "test market" new ideas to revolutionize the world's fastest growing sport. Known as the Great Lakes IHA Showcase Series, this experience paved the way for launching a permanent national league for the exciting new sport on wheels. Play will begin in July 2004.
Big League Roller Hockey will conclude each year on Thanksgiving Weekend. The timing will allow many young IIHL players to pick up "year-round" hockey incomes. They can now perform on the ice from December until late May in the IIHL (or another pro league), then turn to the roller game from July until Thanksgiving.
Franchise price tags for Big League Roller Hockey are $1 million while operators can get on board with the IIHL for only $90,000. Big League Roller Hockey requires operators to post a $500,000 letter of credit to secure operations each season. IIHL operators need a $60,000 letter of credit and $40,000 in annual league dues to support the league office staff.
...but wait there's more:
THE FASTEST GAME
ON EARTH
Ever seen a Wayne Gretzky highlight reel? Step into Xtreme Hockey International's new PRO GAME and let us entertain you with Gretzky-like action! Pure skills of the world's fastest game are showcased in our brand new presentation of hockey on wheels! It's like no game you have ever seen before! It's true "Run & Gun Street Hockey" style on a shortened floor and PLASTIC ICE! There's no icing, no off-sides and checking is absent except in the forechecking zone to pave the way for the game's greatest stickhandlers to do their thing! And without checking to level the score for cheap shots, be prepared to see tempers flare more often to add a few more fights to the mix than seen in normal ice hockey games! All the action is coming to your TV in 2004!
Killbreath never quits does he? The more I see him get away with it the more I blame the people who he cons for not stepping up and taking him to task for it with the authorities.
