Looking at the recent ABA Power Rankings from 12-Feb-2007
http://www.abalive.com/news/releases/?newsid=2007021206001
and looking at the current ABA standings as of 02-16-07 (Which they still can't get right  )
http://www.abalive.com/standings/standings.xls
I think it's interesting that only 566 out of 864 games have been played to date from the top 24 teams.
The ABA Power Rankings: 12-Feb-2007
1. Vermont Frost Heaves 27
2. Arkansas Aeros 22
3. Texas Tycoons 24
4. Jacksonville Jam 28
5. Rochester RazorSharks 23
6. Miami Tropics 24
7. Quad City Riverhawks 28
8. Minnesota Ripknees 25
9. San Diego Wildcats 22
10. Bellingham Slam 27
11. Beijing Aoshen 25
12. Quebec Kebekwa 24
13. Detroit Panthers 21
14. Wilmington Sea Dawgs 20
15. Hollywood Fame 21
16. Strong Island Sound 25
17. Mississippi Miracles 20
18. Buffalo Silverbacks 22
19. Maryland Nighthawks 24
20. Monterrey Veneno 24
21. Gallup Outlaws 18
22. Tennessee Mud Frogs 20
23. Peoria Kings 27
24. Maywood Buzz 25
So, If the ABA season ended today ... and the ABA playoffs were to begin ... The top 24 teams in the ABA would have only played 66% of all possible games played based on a 36 regular season schedule.
And with only 25 days left until the regular season ends ... The average # of games played to date, by all 24 teams, is only 23.58 (24 games).
Teams would need to; on the average; play 12 more games in the next 25 days. That's basically, a game, every other day
That's not good ... Someone is not managing this league properly! (Who knew?)

The schedule has really taken a beating since the first of the year, and the last month will most likely be even worse with all the folded teams. This is the time when the franchise instability in the ABA really begins to hurt as teams are out of options when it comes to trying to reschedule games. The small steps the ABA made earlier in the season are being erased by big strides backward.

I was looking at some team schedules the other day and I counted 26 scheduled games for Gallup instead of 36...what's with that?

Gallup may have had a number of game scheduled against Las Vegas, which folded early on....

The ABA Schedule is a disaster
I'm just excited that Gallup has had some games to play this season. 2005-2006 was just miserable for the original ownership group.

If you have some time today, listen in on ABA All Access Radio for 02/17/07

Make your own assessment of Brad Hester's comments ...
" ... we're at 92% of our games have been played this season."
And Brad thinks they are going to end up playing 92% to 93% of games played this season ...
 I just keep shaking my head back and forth ...
A League Schedule is the # of all original participating teams who started the season x 36 games - PERIOD!

Like father-in-law, like son-in-law.
We're only NOT going to play 8 percent of our games! (Though it sounds like that number will be much higher) The fact that Hester is trying to make that a positive just shows what a joke this league is.

Quick correction, Brad Hester is Joe Newman's step-son, not son-in-law.

That's what I had originally, then changed it. For some reason I thought he was married to Joe's daughter.
In any case:
a - Brad is lying.
b - He's as math-challenged as Joe is. There were 836 games on the original ABA schedule (http://www.allprosoftware.net/abaschedule/aplsmasterschedule.htm) (in fact, that's not even the original schedule because it has the Aurora Force on it). In any case, 92% of 836 is 769.
They ain't gonna play 769 games.

I only listened briefly, but I think Mr. Hester qualified his comment somewhat by stating that he wasn't including the games for the defunct teams (may have to listen to that again). Now, I would agree with you that's an unfair qualification to make, as all games that were originally scheduled need to be counted, and I think he knows it, too. He was trying to cast the league in the best light possible on its own show, so I didn't really expect to hear much different.
Last we checked, I believe the figure was about 80 percent and dropping rapidly. I would guess we're in the 70-75 percent range now. With all the teams folding, the league will be very lucky to hold above 60-65 percent by the time the season ends. You are correct, the league kissed 769 possible games goodbye a long time ago.

I dont ever want to defend the "Special Needs" individuals that think they run the ABA ( I am sorry to have insulted any posters who are actually Special Needs Individuals) BUT if you look at the top 24 most of whom are traveling further to out of area matchups to complete the season on time within that group his math seems to work. but only if you are highly selective with your math.

That's like saying "If you don't count all the money we've lost, we're actually turning a nice profit."

The teams that are still in the league that did not play all of their games should be automatically eliminated from the playoffs and put on probation for the next year. In Atlanta, we played all of our home games. We had away games cancelled that we could not control. Miami and Orlando did not come to see us as scheduled and we had to bring in a replacement team...but we did play and we will play every scheduled game and expect every team in the league to do the same.
While in most leagues playing an entire schedule is expected....the fact that I think you should be applauded for playing a full home schedule just shows how bad the ABA has been since 2000.
The one thing they are doing a good job of is killing minor league basketball....I'll give them credit for that!

Amen on your first comment. Not playing games for reasons other than weather is not acceptable and should not be tolerated.
Congratulations on playing your entire home schedule. In a market like Atlanta where there is competition from major college and pro teams, you should be commended for your efforts.

Go Silverbacks, Go Vision, Go vermont, Go Bellingham, Go Riverhawks, and GO JACKSONVILLE JAM with only 6 more games to play to finish the season. these are the only teams it looks like will complete a full 36 by the end of season. I think The Jam still have a slot or two to fill in the ending schedule... Those teams that want to finish better contact the Jam for a piece of the Massey Rated #1 team... before the playoffs. Although If I were Atlanta I would act fast for a subway series so to speak... you need 15 or 16 games in a couple of weeks.

The Heaves had a problem earlier in the season when the Wonders folded, and then a couple of weeks ago when all the rumors about Hollwyood surfaced. Each time, I contacted them and was assured that the home game would be played at the scheduled times. Newark filled in for the Wonders and Bellingham filled in for Hollywood. We only have 2 remaining home games for the regular season, Newark this saturday in Barre, and Montreal in Burlington on March 1. And I do know that we are on the road to Buffalo this week and have one more game in Rochester.
Fells, was good to put a face to the screen name finally.

oo and Clutch the game Wed is at IROQUOIS!!
and the silverbacks are not goin to finish the season up with 36 games, were 12-10 now with 3 games left on the schedule, we wouldve played 36 if soo many didnt get cancelled due to teams folding(Toledo we were scheduled to play them feb4 and 17, Brooklyn we were scheduled to play Jan24-cancelled and Feb24 but the game on Feb24 will be Rochester and Bklyn instead, why i dont no, also Montreal cancelled 2 games that were supposed to be played in Buffalo, so thats 6 games right there-if played we wouldve have played 31 by the end of the season, but were only goin to finsh the season with playing 25 games unless we schedule another game on short notice jus to play more games, due to the schedule changes and what not Buffalo has not played since Feb 9,10 and before those games the last game they played was on Jan 21 and now after the games on the 9th and 10th they have had not scheduled games until Feb21 and 22 at home so Jan and Feb have been weird months for the 'Backs with cancellations resulting in so much time off

All I know is that you guys headed down Jacksonvill neck of the woods to make up a game or two, perhaps look into a road tour southeast and southwest, might not be a bad idea to at least complete the season! Go is Encouragement to succeed not necessarily endorsement of having done so.
GO Silverbacks!!!

yeah when i saw that we played Jacksonville on Jan19 when it wasnt scheduled i called up the 'Backs and the guy i spoke to said well after they beat Detroit at home on the 18th, right after the game it was almost time to hop on a plane to Jacksonville and go play them, I think he was implying that both teams wanted to make up a game but not against a team close that they play alot but a team they might see in the future(playoffs) and i also think Jax mite have helped pay the travel cost down to Jacksonville for us to play them
and i think instead of goin out west u mite see the 'Backs play teams like Strong Island, Brooklyn, Maryland, Cape Cod, and maybe Wilmington instead of teams like Detroit and Rochester who we have played alot this year and i think thats the farthest they'll go so ill keep ya guys updated if i find out anything but we wouldnt play a non-scheduled game prolly until we play at home on the 21 and 22 but after that u mite see us playing some of those teams mentioned since we dont see them that often, we've played and beat Maryland on the road(not w/ Sun MingMing) and thenwe play at Strong Island on Mar3 and we've played Cape Cod once at home and we beat em too

Heck, if you can arrange a one week road trip and play 3 or 4 teams it is worth it, especially if you can work in special event advertising with the other teams and split the gate. may be worth it on both ends of the coin. a road trip, a week with only one home game a road trip etc. it would let a few more teams complete the season and be actually elligable for the playoffs officially.

thats a good idea, but even if they dont do that theyre in the top 24 currently 17th so looks like theyre in the playoffs but it'd be nice to see how they do against potential playoff opponents or teams they dont see often before the playoffs actually start up
