We announced our new field manager on 1/24/07 at our press conference. Papo Davila will now be the skipper for the Broncos.

Papo (56) is a native of Puerto Rico. He comes to us from San Angelo where he was the Colts pitching coach. Papo is a career baseball man. Papo immediately announced that he was bringing lefty pitcher Angel Miranda who pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers. He also mentioned former #1 MLB draft picks Juan Lebron (outfielder) and Ivan Reyes (infielder).

The biggest feature of Papo that stands out is his commitment to Laredo and the community. "I have a commitment to Laredo and the Latino community, especially to the kids to help them learn baseball and stay off the streets. I want to bring many wins to Laredo."

Papo was 16 years old when he was drafted by the Oakland A's as a pitcher/first baseman. He was with the A's through 1984 and went on to coaching. He was the bullpen coach for the Cleveland Indians from 1999-2001.

Papo is currently coaching our Broncos Winter League team in Harlingen.

I have a Broncos fan email where I send out a weekly newsletter. If you'd like to get on the fan email list, email me at bhancock@unitedleague.org.
