That one's not in the dictionary.
When you sound it out, it comes pretty close to "compassion". The answer to that is unequivocally NO, the NFL does not need compassion, because at several billion dollars a year in TV revenue alone, business is plenty good with that bunch.
I'm thinking you mean "competition". MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS all do exist. I guess I'll have to give credit to Arena Football as well, very grudgingly. MLS, being real football and all, wouldn't mind having more fans. So, yes, the NFL HAS competition.
I could be wrong, I am wrong a reasonable share of the time, but I'll bet you're referring to outdoor football. College football ring a bell? The WFL USFL, WLAF, and XFL all crashed and burned, mostly in spectacular fashion. It is therefore my suspicion that American fans do not think the NFL needs professional competition (which is probably the answer to the question that should be asked, but I am prone to the occasional burst of misinterpretation, so please feel free to correct me if necessary).
