It seems that, once again, the ABA showed it has a highly entertaining product, which I know from attending games in past seasons. Also, once again, it seems no-one with any marketing sense was in charge of marketing.
Joe Newman is a good person to serve as a cheerleader for the league. It would not exist if it were not for his enthusiasm, persistence and belief in the league. But he is not the person who should be in charge of running the league. It seems some serious changes may be hear in that area.
It seems the Rainmen have a real chance to gain acceptance and be successful in Halifax if they pay attention to what the media people have told them they need to do to be successful. It will be interesting to see if they will listen to the people who really controll the keys to their success.
One question--Why wasn't the official ball used in the game?

What should have been established ... Was for the ABA to have an actual PR/Media Director and Marketing Arm who would have worked 'side-by-side' with the Halifax organization during the entire process, to ensure that every avenue was covered, the media's needs serviced, their feedback appreciated, and to take action on any items that could be implemented or improved to facilitate a more successful event.
If there were some questions that the Halifax organization felt like they couldn't answer with 100% certainty or event items they didn't feel comfortable managing ... The ABA should have been right there to supply the answers or take the lead and give some direction.
The ABA cannot be content by just supplying players and coaches. There's so much more 'to the product' that needs attention.
The ABA, really, just does not do it right! It all comes from the top ...
Maybe I can understand how Uncle Joe is able to separate a fool from his money...There's a columnist in Halifax who is ready to be fleeced!

... But I guess not
Let's read shall we ... how the ABA All-Star Weekend was a slam dunk.
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3420978
Then let's continue to read the extended article from monday ...
http://www.halifaxlive.com/content/view/902/32/
And we'll finish up with this article ...

"I wouldn't call it a slam dunk ..." says the Daily News writer.
I'm just shaking my head from side to side ... Where was the ABA executive arm when Halifax needed them the most? Surely it was well before January 26-28, 2007 ???
Even the Halifax "... majority owner, Andre Levingston ... didn’t come out of hiding until last week."
"From the beginning those in charge have blown it. Why Levingston became such a ‘mysterious’ commodity is not known."
Hmm ... The ABA and The Halifax majority owner, just, not around ???
Halifax under all the pressure ... and the ABA just kind of shows up.
"Way to go Joe!"
I remember reading the article that said there were only 2,500 at the Slam Dunk contest part of the All-Star weekend, in Halifax. But I just visited ABA live and the picture displayed, the place looked nearly full from that angle.
But even 3,000(in a capacity of 10,+) is pretty impressive to me, considering what most teams in the league average. Just get the fans to return when they have a team.

Reports from the slam dunk competition were between 2,500-3,000 (two different papers reported different estimates). I believe they kept everyone on one side. If they did, that looks about right. IMO, it is a pretty good turnout for an event in a new city with mostly unknown players.

"... The ABA All-Star Committe is preparing a complete summary of the exciting ABA All-Star weekend. It will be posted shortly on the website."
Ummm, It's now nearing 72 hours Post-All-Star game.
The excitement has come and gone ... Old News is Yesterday's News!
Thanks to the ABA for NOT allowing all the ABA fans outside of Halifax to experience the event.
I wonder how many people couldn't register, subscribe and download the PODCAST?

I would though like to thank the Halifax Media for their ABA All-Star Weekend reporting ... and to those ABA teams who sent out pre and post All-Star weekend media releases highlighting their All-Star selection(s) and their experiences during the event - Good Job!
Hey! The ABA is just living up to its "Old School" roots.....but going back a little further than the old ABA of the 60's and 70's...
Try the 1860's when it took nine days for information to make the trip west on the Pony Express!
Everyone on one side? I've never been able to figure that out. They do that at Pittsburgh Xplosion games also.

No they had about the same amount on each side of the gym - must be the angle of the picture you were looking at.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the ramblings of Alex J. Wallin. From most articles I've read, his perception on sports seems slightly out of wack with reality. He chastizes the CIS for holding events in places that sell out simply because it was cold. I can't think of other examples off the top of my head, but I wouldn't put much stock in what he says.
