I doubt that is true - that it will fold and the average attendance paid. Gotta have a source when you spew out rumors like that. Usually the Canadian press is on top of these things.
Plus, the Leafs like having their farm team close to home.

I could just as well say that I talked to AHL president Dave Andrews this morning and he said the Marlies are fine.

According to the league

Story I've heard is the that Maple Leafs Sporting Entertainment, which also owns the Ricoh, is willing to eat any loss on the Marlies, simply because they fill arena dates.

That doesn't make business sense to me--If the team and arena are owned by the same company, then filling a date just moves the rental money from one pocket (Marlies division) to another (Ricoh division), but then the other game EXPENSES get subtracted out of the company, and when the game REVENUES come in less than the other expenses, the whole company is in worse shape than having no game (if that's the case with expenses > revenues).

I don't understand the logic. All I know is that the Leafs don't want Ricoh sitting empty. (If I were to take a stab at it, it'd be something like "hey people are using that arena, I should book my event at it".) I'm sure their reasoning is similar to Dan Gilbert's desire to own an AHL team.

comping 3,200 tickets a game. No way! No how! You can say whatever you want, but that is not true.
I don't know what you're agenda is Jayme but the Marlies will be around a lot longer than you will be posting on this board. The AHL also would not have awarded them the all-star game and have them fold up shop.
THREAD CLOSED.

I've seen worse threats than that. Anyway, I take this with a huge grain of salt-if the Leafs wanted the Ricoh to be empty, they could have had it that way when they kicked out the Roadrunners. Instead they moved St. John's over so they could fill arena dates (and get some money back-heck I don't know)

Did you read Dave Andrews comments about the all-star weekend? They were disappointed with the comps, etc., but there was no talk about pulling the plug on the Marlies. They did say that both the Leafs and the city are taking too big of a cut at the expense of the fans. The Leafs said they want the Marlies around for player development.
As far as making a threat against you, I have about 300 posts on this board ... I wouldn't jeopardize my access over this board in discussion a minor league hockey team. If you felt threatened, I apologize. I've followed the AHL for nearly 25 years and I read more about hockey in a day than most people do in a week. You can talk to all the trainers you want, but the Marlies aren't going anywhere. That's my opinion, based on what I researched.
You are entitled to what you believe and so am I. There's no threat in expressing an opinion.

I didn't find a threat in what was posted. As for the subject at hand, there are plenty of articles on the Marlies situation up on our Marlies page.

Speaking solely from the heart....
I think Toronto, Chicago and Philadelphia SHOULD fold. And Windsor should be a non-starter.
I never liked the idea of having AHL teams in NHL cities.
I'd much rather see those teams in places like Jacksonville, Orlando, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, etc., or a return to Halifax, Louisville, or Cincinnati.
I know, I know, please don't list the many reasons I'm wrong (especially about Cincinnati!) as this is just wishful thinking......
