View Full Version : Unfortunately, it's official
The Utah Eagles are no more, it's sad to say. The draft for their players will be on Thursday. It will be interesting to see how they revise the schedule.
The Eagles were supposed to visit the Daredevils tonight so I'm guessing they decided to fold instead of play.

They played tonight and the score was Butte 1113, Utah 96 with 6-1 points.
They will play again tomorrow night.
Utah has been very professional and are playing to win.
First off, either Butte had 111 or 113, you have 4 digits.
second, that score looks similar to the one they played recently.
Third, you had better check the league reports, before you look for a game on Wed., in Butte. According to the CBA, we now have 7 teams.

At least the CBA announced the team has ceased operations and didn't stick it to people like another league would have (you don't need to guess on this one).

Unfortunate, but not surprising. The lack of (real paid) attendance certainly did them in. Hopefully this isn't a sign that Apex is running dry. It's late enough in the season where you have to wonder why they couldn't pull through, but perhaps it really is a case where the situation was so bleak that they saw no hope for the city and consequently no reason to complete the season. Hopefully the CBA will move towards smaller cities. If they ever start in Atlanta, I will not be surprised if the result is the same.

Recognized as the world’s oldest professional basketball league the CBA moves ahead with the goal of moving into larger media markets in the United States and incorporating international competition as early as next season
When I see international, I wonder if the CBA wants to bring professional basketball back to Vancouver. Maybe Winnipeg? Or how about the good-as-gold Mexico City?
In any event, the CBA, while reeling, still appears to have a solid foundation, and I imagine that most teams should be able to return next year. Surely the league has a better chance now then immediately after Isiah, right?
The Draft will tomorrow, which is when they will cease operations.
I think Vancouver will have a strong showing next season, but Atlanta will be interesting to see how they do. The Eagles will be back, they are looking for another location. But I also believe the league is still strong.

and Atlanta were supposed to be in this year. But the Vancouver Dragons were pushed back to an 08 expansion team. We'll see if this materializes ...

I never put any stock in the previous Atlanta or Vancouver attempts. Those were laughable, and had they played this season, the league would have looked much worse.
But actually, now that I look at the Dragons' website (http://www.vancouverdragons.com/).... maybe they are legitimate. Nevermind.

The posters who claim the league has a solid foundation, please elaborate.
Considering most never tip the 1000 scale in attendance. Pitt never posts an attendance and they wont pay anyone to create the webcast. Wow solid

I wouldn't be terribly optimistic about Vancouver. The owner's past in the ABA is questionable, and the organization claimed it would start the season and (luckily) decided not to before the season began. Luckily, it sounds like the league has other more solid leads for new teams for next season.
kg, just because the Xplosion don't post their attendance, don't read anything into it. What you see on the webcast screen is not the whole story. I have been to the games(all). We had a decent crowd last night(although your Sun Kings won).
the Eagles will come back with new ownership and a supporting new city.

Crowd in Pitt last night looked about 200.

Pitt is winning by 12 with 6:30 left in the 1st.
I just came from the game. The Xplosion had an 11 point halftime lead, but we blew it and lost by as many. In all fairness, though, Yakama is a good team(that's more credit then we get).

Before I could attend a game they are gone!!!
In reality they lost their big money sponsor three days before the season. No business could withstand that kind of loss. Apex did what they could in promoting the team but SLC is a tough sell. Hard for you to believe but there are a many other things to do in this valley. Skiing, snowmobiling, attending the Utah Jazz, Utah Grizzlies Hockey, Utah Blaze Indoor Football, concerts, ballet, high school basketball, the list goes on and on.
Remember our troops, jack and cheryl.
