Amazing what you can find on Wikipedia. Considering that the ABA's entry in Wikipedia is bereft of any mention of controversy or dissention (think of a page without any reference to the NIFL's less than stellar record), and you see a pattern here. I wonder who's editing the ABA's Wikipedia page to remove any less-than-pleasant references about ABA controversy - Uncle Joe, one of his kids/employees, or one of his sycophants like ABA06er / Corning Tax Payer?

..they folded in the USBL or at best did not complete the season, but the point is well-taken.

The new CBA teams all seem to be drawing in the 1,000 range. It certainly could be better, but it has been a bit of a land rush, and I don't think starting the season on December 1 helps. There are a lot of distractions in early December with the holidays and all. Either before Thanksgiving or after Christmas would be an improvement.

Maybe Chuck knows what Great Falls's attendance was when they were in the league before. I know the old Patroons drew a bit better than the current edition.

Except for Pittsburgh. :)

Drawing announced crowds of 1,000 in the CBA is no better than drawing 80 fans in the ABA when it comes to the bottom line (given the air and overnight travel necessary). There's no way teams are anywhere near the black with those numbers. Lately, more and more CBA box scores list "0" as the crowd. A crowd of "0" leads me to believe it was under 1K since they've posted crowds of a little over 1,000. The box score from Indiana's opener isn't even up yet. And, on "Recent News," an 11/30 story is most recent.

I agree that starting in December was a mistake. I assume they did it simply to give their new teams more time. You can still get fans to events in November, but it's a lot tougher in December when the malls become evening competition too. So there are some valid excuses for the CBA teams, but they better see significant improvement, or they will be bleeding massive amounts of red ink by the end of the year.

The actual attendance numbers prove to be less than 1,000 and some cities less than 100. Please do not post numbers from other cities showing 1,245 or 1,623. The only real count is from Yakama and they admit that they give out a lot of free tickets. Bottom line...survival is going to be tough. Interesting to see that Rochester in the ABA is going to have HOME games on TV. I guess if you have money, ticket revenue becomes secondary. If the CBA teams at least had corporate sponors pouring in a few dollars to off-set the low ticket sales, that would help, but thats not the case.

I have been trying to tell you guys for weeks , the CBA is as good as done.

It has taken until now for posters to catch on to this and post the inevitable demise of the CBA.

RIP, CBA - you garbage picking good for nothing 8 team league who draws 100 fans to gaems on free tickets and then announces the attendence over a thousand when in the news papers coming out of Pittsburgh the reporters are admitting to only seeing a few hundred people at the games at most.

CBA - you should be ashamed , you have tarnished minor league basketball , Im smiling to know that they will all be done soon .

good day !

6er, take a hike.

The CBA tries and perhaps fails. That's a bit of a shame, but understandable in this environment. They worked honestly, for the most part.

The ABA deserves death by a million lawyers. Joe Newman is the most shameful presence in the sports world, and in a universe with Terrell Owens, that's saying something....

...wait a minute. Shameful, or shameLESS?

"Hi, kettle? This is the pot. Guess what? You're black! I'll bet you didn't even know that! Yes, you're black as the ace of spades! Really, go check in a mirror!"

The use of the word, ashamed, shameful, etc.

The anger at the CBA for taking teams.

The skewed logic.....

Unca Joe, is that you?

BTW, who coined the phrase Uncle Joe?

I've been on this board since the beginning of the ABA discussion in 2000...I'm trying to remember who would have been the one to coin the phrase...I don't think that Chuck the Writer was on the board back then...Unless it would have been under a different handle...

Paul any help?

I recall some other people using "Uncle Joe," I started calling him "Unca Joe" just to make it sound like a kid actually believing his lying uncle, as in "Is dat true, Unca Joe?"

Anderson, IN. The ABA Anderson Champions announced today that they are rapidly expanding their marketing staff. New marketing representatives met at the Flagship Enterprise in Anderson to launch the organization's "community" based ticket sales initiative. Within an hour of the meeting, four season tickets were sold with contributions for each ticket sold being donated to the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club. Season tickets are $99 from now until December 23rd; the staff is also selling individual game tickets. For more information, call 1 866 SWISH 43. If you are interested in joining the Champions Marketing Team to earn money for Christmas and post-Christmas expenses, call 765 643 9111.

WTF! The season has already started, who is going to buy tickets for this crap.

Good for them. They drew 1,200 on opening night and seem to have some base (that crowd might have beat the CBA's opener there, but I don't know, as a box score still hasn't been posted on the CBA's site, and the team's last update was December 4). The ABA team is fairly competitive too.

Ultimately, it's good to have one of Anderson's teams trying to market themselves. I agree that before the season would have been best, but it's better late than never. So kudos to the team for trying to actually promote their product.
