There will be an expansion draft that will involve the two newest FL teams, the Southern Illinois Miners and the Slippery Rock franchise, on Monday. When exactly on Monday (tomorrow) I don't know, but it will be on that day.

Here are the rules:

* The existing ten teams can protect up to 15 of their final 24 man roster from last year. The other 9 will be left available for the expansion teams to draft.

* No team can lose more than two players, so for example, say Slippery Rock chooses a Washington Wild Thing, well at that point, the Wild Things can then protect another player to bring their total to 16 players protected. The selection pool of Wild Things players decrease from 9 to 7 players. Once another player is picked from the Wild Things, the Wild Things are taken off the board.

It should be interesting to find out which players teams leave available.

Where can you find out about the draft and results? I didnt see anything mentioned about this even on the Frontier League website?

I agree Paintsfan. I dont know about the paints situation but up here in Traverse City weve got like 5 or 6 good one year players and obviously you cant keep them all. Plus weve got 4 good verteran players and you can only have 3 at most. Im just excited to see the offseason officially get started. This is the first offseason up here so im kind of excited to see what kind of movement will come in the next 2 or 3 months before major league teams start dropping players. Another question how do you think the all star game will go as far as division and rosters. I was thinking marion would be west slippery rock east. Then Windy City and Rockford West, Traverse City and Kalamazoo East.

GO BUMS

I was curious, because there are a few Freedom players that I would hate see go. I am really excited about the All Star Game being here this year. How many usually attend from out of town?

With the first pick in the expansion draft, the Southern Illinois Miners choose Chris Pillsbury, RHP, of the Evansville Otters.

Wow, I'm shocked that the Otters left him available. After what he did against my Paints in the championship, I assumed he would stay in Evansville. Interesting.

The Southern Illinois Miners with their second pick then picked up Marshall Plouffe from my Paints! Wow, he was almost an untouchable on my list.

Slippery Rock with their first pick chose Cameron Cheek of River City.

So here's the whole 2007 FL expansion draft.

Southern Illinois Miners:
RHP Chris Pillsbury, Evansville
RHP Marshall Plouffe, Chillicothe
OF Ryan Kane, Chillicothe (Paints off the board)
1B Andy Hudak, Washington
C Ryan Hanson, Florence
RHP Bo Massey, Rockford
INF Ray Navarro, Windy City

Slippery Rock:
RHP Cameron Cheek, River City
LHP Kory Bucklew, Traverse City
RHP Caleb McConnell, River City (Rascals off the board)
RHP Ben Lovell, Florence (Freedom off the board)

Is there a reason the Miners took only 7 players in the expansion draft and the Slippery Rock team took 9? Do you think it was by choice or was there a reason Slippery Rock took more? Was it because Southern Illinois chose first? It seems like it makes sense to draft as many players as possible from the other teams, so only taking 7 by choice would seem odd to me.

No, there's nothing odd going on here. The Miners simply chose to pass on their next pick and decided that they were done drafting, thus that's why you see 7 drafted for them and 9 drafted for Slippery Rock.
