By Friday there should be knowledge of what the position is of the new ownership group of the ABA. Sources from California say, major shake up and re-organization from top to bottom. The CBA will have to show it can survive, one company having 3 or 4 payrolls for 3 or 4 different teams wont cut it. Check out the the CBA schedule for example. Great Falls at Utah...Dec 13, 14, 15, 16. Wont work. At least the ownership of the the 4 teams has a good chance to win a championship. LOL. Still as of Thursday, 2 teams having a problem in CBA with Funds. Lets see what the week brings......... On a seperate note, regarding Baltimore, The AHL board of Govenors will NOT even discuss another team in Baltimore ever. The Lacross team is relocating. The only living sports entity downtown is the indoor soccer team. Baltimore is the blackhole of minor league sports. My prediction today, Sunday Nov 26, 2006......... ABA down to 16 solid teams. CBA 50/50 chance to survive past January 2007.
I read an article in a Northwest Indiana paper(online) about the problems with the ABA. I think that you are right that it should be dwindled down in teans.
As far as the CBA, I had no idea that there were so many teams under the similar ownerships. As far as the Pgh. Xplosion go, I don't care what league we are in, as long as they survive. I'm hoping the league lasts to the end of the season. But right now, my focus is on our opener on Dec. 1st(and home opener Dec. 6th).

From the article:
There's a stink emanating from the American Basketball Association, a lack of credibility as comical as it is disturbing.

As far as the Bayhawks lacrosse team (its lacrosse with an "e") goes, the league says it hopes to place another team in Baltimore soon. Since it's an outdoor team, I believe there was perhaps an arena issue. The indoor team left Baltimore years ago and now is thriving elsewhere.
If Baltimore (although doubtful) ever built a new arena, teams would come crawling back, especially the AHL. Never say never.

Maybe 16 teams for 07-08. Unless the new group is planning to buy out the other 40some owners or assume responsibility for agreements entered into and refunding the season ticket and sponsorhip funds collected by those 40some other teams, I don't see how this can happen this season without the new group opening itself up to numerous potential lawsuits.

...wouldn't that totally discombobulate the supposed "plan" for having a 100-team ABA in regional clusters upon which the current season is based? Could that be changed in the middle of the season, or would one have to wait until next year and totally reconstitute the league?
Even with teams folding, the regional aspect would probably still be in place, but eliminating teams would start the travel budgets swelling.

That "plan" was a pipe dream from the get-go.
The ABA has already had nearly 150 teams associated with it, not counting those on tap for 2007-08.
It's one thing to have a team drop/fold - sorry, 'suspended' in the language of the league - but to contract a number of teams at one time is something that should have been done a long time ago...
before the season began; not now. Why now? And if there is new leadership coming in - are they part of the kitchen cabinet, or separate and distinct, with the authority to effect actual change?
If there are teams who have received funds for season tickets or advertising, who will re-imburse those parties? What was a schedule will now be nothing more than a whimsical list of games to be played in some alternate universe.
This has the potential of another CBA/IBL cancel/merger season...
Wow...

I'm very interested to see what happens. I'd be surprised if the CBA makes it through without significant hurdles (if at all). They made many of the same mistakes that the ABA has made. Unfortunately for them, with only eight teams, they can't afford to lose half the league and have the survivors adjust the schedule.
As I look at the CBA, the website hasn't had a new piece of news in nearly three weeks, the Alleycats are listing their "tyouts" which were posted September 16th, and Butte and Great Fall's latest updates were in September. They don't look like a league that's ready to go. Fewer teams, higher travel, and similar practices to weaker ABA teams seem like a bad recipe.
Interesting times in minor league basketball.
I noticed that about Indiana, when I visited their sight recently. All in all, I think the Xplosion is the only sight that is updated regularly. I'm ready for the season.

Indiana corrected the "tyouts" headline on its main page within the last day or two. I would have been more impressed if they would have posted some news given the season is days away, but correcting the September news item is a start. They struggled with updates in the ABA too.
It looks like Minot is on the ball too along with Albany and Yakama. So, while I have been somewhat skeptical of the league as a whole this year, half the league looks on top of things. We'll see if the rest can follow their lead. This weekend should be interesting.
Hopefully they all realize how close the season is. I was skeptical also, but I'm more optimistic about the Xplosion than I am concerned of the league, even though we have to play our opponents.
