Okay, Coach Fields on the Utah Eagles Forum announces that the Eagles Owner Randy Mellor-SignatureAlert is stepping aside for some guy named Joe Clark - Apexsportstainment?
What gives is the CBA become the ABA-Light?
Not sure if I should buy tickets online....Oh wait the web site is under construction so no web sale this week. But wait isn't the season just 9 days way? No press, hype or mention of the new team in town that starts play on December 1st.

So old joe owns an interest in the two Montana CBA teams. Now it makes sense, you can loose even more money by owning four teams! WTF? This makes me ill, good thing I did not buy season tickets.... Think in time I. Thomas gets his wish to destroy the CBA.
Can you say games of talent and skill to become scripted?
so much for this league, jack and cheryl
Utah, I don't know anything about the Apex that you speak of. But I am glad to see that the CBA season is approaching, as a season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Xplosion and I look forward to when they play teams like your Utah Eagles. At least the teams have a promotion system in this league. I look forward to watching the action.
Maybe this Apex sports will be a positive one for the Eagles.

psbf,
Apex is the group that is causing a lot of raised eyebrows. Conventional wisdom suggests that it will be difficult enough to operate ONE CBA team. Operating FOUR teams will be next to impossible. BTW, it's never a good sign when a team switches owners less than two weeks before the start of the season.
...as for TSEG, I can't even BEGIN to understand that confederation.
I agree, about them owning 4 teams. I had no idea. I would hope they would attract another investor to help.

Joe Clark was affiliated with the now defunct AAPBL. After the AAPBL's demise he took a job as the Head coach of the San Jose Skyrockets and sold that teams ownership on a updated verison of the AAPBL's business model. They were going to start a new league called the Mountian Plains Basketball League until the CBA almost went under. They then decided to buy into the CBA because it's brand name is already established. They most likely plan on buying more than four teams: Lethbridge, Spokane, Billings, Casper, Rapid City are all cities they may expand into. When it is all said and done they may own 8 or 9 teams. I think the Big Sky region plan could work, as for TSEG I am also having a hard time understanding how what is going on there. They are not targeting a single region or sensible markets (Atlanta being the worst of the worse)

Your facts are wrong. Joe Clark was not affiliated with the AAPL and he was not head coach of the San Jose Skyrockets. Their business plan is not an updated version of the AAPL because they didn't have anything to do with the AAPL. As a matter of fact, when they went into Great Falls they offered to honor any obligation the AAPL had made even though they had nothing to do with them in order to bring basketball into a better light. It is not their planto form another league.

Actually, BECTOND is not that that off. Joe Clark was indeed not affiliated with the AAPBL and was not the head coach of the San Jose Skyrockets, but Kermit Young director of player personell for Apex was. Kermit was the head coach of the Great Falls Explorers of the AAPBL and upon the leage folding he took the job in San Jose. Their plan is indeed an updated version of the AAPBL: look at the teams and the cities: AAPBL: Minot Minute Men, Butte Bandits, Great Falls Cowboys. CBA: Minot Sky Rockets, Butte Daredevils, Great Falls Explorers. We'll see in the next couple of years if they make an attmept to enter the markets of the other teams from the AAPBL: Hutchinson, Wichita, Lincoln, Billings, Topeka.

Great Falls and Minot were both CBA cities in the past and drew well, that is the reason they went into those cities. They went into Butte because of the reception they received from the community. From speaking with them, they have NO plans of going into any of the other markets mentioned. APEX has four divisions: sports franchises, merchandising, entertainment and broadcast. All of these areas are covered with their teams. Their next venture may be international.

Minot was a CBA city:rolleyes:
I may have gotten a few names mixed up and they may not go into any of the markets mentioned. However, they were going to start there own league after they left the ABA in former AAPBL cities, then changed their minds and decided to purchase CBA franchises. I read they were looking into Lethbridge and Spokane for next year. Only time will tell.

the only problem with Kermit Young is that he obviously does not know talent. based upon what I see with the Great Falls roster is that they will not win 10 games total. It will be Yakama this year again with Minot and Albany fighting for the other side. It is very hard for college coaches to jump into the CBA and Kermit will take a hard hit this year. Dave Bliss did a terrible job in Dakota, and I think that carson, Young, and Aggers will suffer the same fate.
It sounds like you're predicting the playoffs already, Oneway. How can you do that when 1/3 of the league has yet to be heard from? I think it's a little pre-mature.

7 of the 8 teams have released their rosters (only Utah has not been heard from), If oneway is wrong about anything it is that Great falls is the second worse team becasue Butte SUCKS!!!!!
At least Great Falls has Salscheider, Vaughn, Edelin, Dantzler and Mouton(all are CBA level players). Butte looks and smells like an ABA team. Unless they sign a few players this week, they looks like a 6-42 team to me.
I guess we'll find out where the teams stand on Friday when the season begins.

I need to catch up on the CBA. I just realized today that they have no roster (old news, I know). Just wanted to make one minor correction - Minot never had a CBA team before, the Magic City Snowbears were a member of the IBA, the league that merged with the CBA in 2001-2002. The Snowbears decided not to join the CBA and they folded. Then, in 2003, before the CBA season started, it was announced that Minot would get an ABA team called the Magic City Freeze. A few days later, that franchise was moved to Utah and they became known as the Utah Snowbears.
I've gotten to learn more about the NBA D-League now that the Dakota Wizards are a part of it. It's too early to tell whether I like the league or not. But now that the CBA is starting to look like the ABA, I'm glad the Wizards got out of there. I'll be rooting for the Skyrockets, and if the winter weather is nice during the spring, I hope to make at least one trip north to see a game!
Hope the CBA season will be a successful one, for the franchises and the fans.
Minot is new to the CBA. I don't know about past years, but the Skyrockets were in San Jose, playing in the ABA last season, before they decided to move to this league, which will be their second in existence-but first in Minot.
I would like to add that I'm tired of reading about the comparison between the ABA and CBA when we have not even began our season yet. Let's see how this weekend goes at least. The Pgh Xplosion are also in their second season(joining the other ABA teams who joined) and I'll be enjoying watching the action, as will many others here in the Golden Triangle.

The CBA doesn't look like it is really going to be a great league this year. Other than Kevin Pittsnogle what NBA prospects do they have? Please don't tell me Felipe Lopez and Sean Higgins are legit NBA prospects. The CBA teams seem to be signing several players waived by NBDL teams and former NBDL players from years past. As sad as it would be to see the CBA disappear, I think all of you fans and supporters would be wise to hope that the your team joins the NBDL in the future.
That's true. I admit that it does not seem good for this league, currently. Teams just seem to be signing players just to get past the deadline. In my view, the Xplosion seem to be the best team prepared. With just two days left before the season, I'm still surprised that there are teams that are still basically silent.
We just joined the league this year(along with a couple others), so it is really sad that we may have to do it again. I still hold hope that the league will improve, though. Regardless, I can't wait for Friday. I hope all the games will be played this weekend.

..it's clearly a transitional year, but G-Mac may be coming to the league along with some other "name" attractions.
The fact is that the CBA is going to be more of a veteran's league going forward, given the two-year rule in the D-League for new talent. That won't be all bad, the quality of play may be higher as a result.

All of the articles on G-Mac say his agent suggested that he will most likely play in the NBDL. It mentions the CBA because he was drafted by Albany. That is one of the huge differences between the two leagues. The CBA teams draft players hoping they will come and play. The NBDL teams draft players who have already signed contracts with the league office. Look back at the CBA draft, isn't every player on the list other than Pittsnogle and Dayshawn Wright (who is on nobodys radar) either in the NBA, NBDL or overseas?? Do you all think that happens by coincidence?
Also, what are you referring to regarding the "two-year rule"? I know that NBA teams can only assign players that are in their first two years, but any player regardless of years out of college can sign in the NBDL. I agree they tend to have younger players than the CBA, but what makes you think guys like Pooh Jeter, Brad Buckman & Mike Hall all 1st round CBA draft picks who are in the NBDL aren't already better players than 95% of the CBA? Is the quality of older players that much better than these 4-year college stars trying to get to the NBA?

I used to live in Syracuse. My screen saver is a picture of my nephew (former team manager) and G-Mac. I like the guy, but don't think he is NBA material.
Being able to assign players to the D-League and retaining the rights to them for two years means you can sign "project" players and assign them to the D-League.
G-Mac played summer league ball with Orlando. They didn't retain him.
His agent said he would be drafted. He wasn't.
His agent said he would be a retained free agent. He wasn't.
His agent said he would be a starter in Greece. He wasn't.
Playing in Albany would allow G-Mac to retain his business and marketing contacts in Scranton and Syracuse. A D-League gig in Fort Worth won't, and neither would riding the pine in Greece.
Those are valuable, and will likely mean G-Mac will have a long career with some company largely playing golf and gladhanding people.
There are worse things in life.
