I don't know about the rest of you, but I am dissapointed with the name Miners (and the logo). It is nice that they tried to pick something reflective of the local community, but where are there not miners? The name Miners tells you nothing of their location. What do you think of first when you think of Miners? West Virginia? Colorado? I don't think Southern Illinois is high on that list.

Whereas, if they would have picked something associated with Little Egypt, there would have been little question what geographic location the name is associated with. Some people might think of Memphis, but after that, the only other possibility is Little Egypt.

Ohh well, I will get used to it. It is certainly better than Grizzlies for the Metro East. (I guess they were referring to the grizzlies in the Forest Park Zoo). But I am tired of these team names being so politically correct. Miners was the easy way out, and the ownership group took it. I hope that is not an indication of things to come.

They figured "Fighting Blagojeviches" would have been too unsubtle.

Besides the name, I have another concern...the ballpark. Right now, it is slightly more developed than the cornfield that was there to begin with. All the newspapers I read say, "with a good winter" it should be ready for games in the Spring.

Yeah, if the winter is 75 degrees and sunny everyday.

The stadium is a long way from finished at this point. Perhaps as the day draws closer they will add additional construction workers, but I doubt it. I suppose they will have to do a New Busch construction plan, installing seats when the team is on the road.

P.S. - Good point on the "Fighting Blagojeviches." I guess you would have to say it worked though...the man was reelected. Even if his definition of Southern Illinois is Joliet. I don't think he will be catching too many "Miners" games.

looks a lot like the Gary Railcats' logo where the animal is swinging the beam.
