View Full Version : Pay Scale in Leagues
Are the players in the 3 major womens football leagues
(WPFL,NWFA, IWFL) truely professional or are they more
semi-pro? How much do they make per game? Is there a
league minimum salary?

generally speaking, the pay is based on team profit. if the teams make money, then the players get soemthing for it. there are only a few teams where the players are getting paid. all of them play for the love of the game and do not expect to get paid. of course they would like to work to that level of some kind of salary, but ya got to get the butts in the seats first. it is hard to do for women sports, especially one that is different from the typical roles. too many people laugh at the idea of women playing football, but those are the same people that have never seen a game.

The Detroit Demolition are 3 time NWFA champions and haven't lost a game since 2002. How much have the players been paid for all of thise wins? I believe the answer is $0. There may be some sort of profit sharing (or maybe not... I don't know), but I'm pretty certain there are no salaries for the players. They actually said as much over the loudspeaker at a Demolition game I attended last year. I guess that would make them semi-pro by definition, but with nothing higher, it is as close to pro as you can get.
