I just got back from my first FireAntz game ever (also my first hockey game ever), and wow. I love the Guard, obviously, but I now know why the FireAntz get more attendance. It was definitely more fun than I thought it would be. There's so much to say about it, so here goes...

First off, the game itself. 11-6?! Heck, that's a high score even for a baseball game. I already knew the scoring was way higher in this league, but goodness. That definitely added to the fun. We played pretty well, especially our goalie. That guy is awesome. Hopefully we'll keep up the great play.

Second, there were only 3,500 people there, but the atmosphere was still great. I can only imagine what it would be like if the place were twice that full. Pretty creative chant they do after a FireAntz goal, haha. We definitely have a fight-hungry crowd, that's for sure. People were going crazy at the slightest sign of tempers flaring. It must be nuts in there when there actually is a fight (there were none tonight). Also, it was nice to hear a goal horn sound, even if it wasn't the real thing like you'd see at an NHL game. Got to love those goal horns. :)

Finally, our dance team's pretty hot. There were only six, but hey, I liked them. Too bad those other girls in the ref shirts weren't actually the real refs. That'd boost attendance. :D

So, bottom line, I loved it. I'm going to go to as many games as possible this season. I am definitely hooked.

There are some things I would like to say. First of all, scoring 11 goals is pretty rare and you will see more games where the teams score two to six goals. I attended my first SPHL game on opening night, but it wasn't my first hockey game because I've seen plenty of Columbia Inferno games and an Iowa Stars game. The home team, the Columbus Cottonmouths, won their game 5-2 and it was pretty exciting. There was even a pretty big fight that resulted in a two game suspension for one player. I have to say that the SPHL is just about as entertaining as ECHL and more entertaining than the AHL. I like minor league hockey and the AHL players are probably better players but it was boring and they didn't put as much into the game as the ECHL and SPHL players.

Anyways, the SPHL puts out a good product and I definately encourage you to see more games. I will probably see my first ever Sunday afternoon game tomorrow if everything goes right.
