With all of the nonsense going on with the ABA, I have an alternative idea. Why not support the high school teams in your area? Most of us live with in driving distance of the high school we attended. With the high school atmosphere, cheerleaders, kids playing thier asses off, and for maybe $3-5 per game?
The snake oil salesmen who are in charge of this league or a part of it need to figure out that there's more to running a league than cashing franchise fee checks and watching teams disappear every other day. The so called management of the ABA gives nothing but rude and insulting answers to questions about teams and the league. Most of the ABA teams play in high school gyms anyway. Why keep feeding these idiots money for inferior, poorly run, fly-by-night owners? How can you be a fan of a team that most likely will be gone in 60 days? Why do you think all of these teams are pushing season tickets? Get the money up front, then when they vanish, too bad for you. Would you pay for a meal before you've eaten it? Once the money is out of your pocket, your out of luck.
With 100 teams soon, at anywhere from $10,000-$20,000 per team franchise fees, the ABA stands to rake it at least a million dollars. Where do they spend this money? What are their expenses? These ABA team owners are mostly a joke. All we hear about is how they ar ebasketball fans, and have always drempt of being an owner. I've always dreampt of playing first base for the Yankess..........forget it already!! I on the other hand, do have access to $10,000. Maybe I'll start a team here in Schaumburg IL. I can rent a church gym, buy some uniforms at Sports Authority and tell everyone how this is the future of sports ownership. How can there be so many gullible people who continuously feed money to the ABA and get screwed? I've seen little leagues baseball teams with better management skills. I do believe that most of these ABA teams do not travel out of state is because too many players would violate their parole.probation restrictions by crossing state lines. I'll support the ol' Rams of my old high school. No soap operas, no cancelled games, and close to 800 people per game. A Coke, a hot dog, and kids playing hard as hell to win. Why do we need inferior, con artist basketball?
