View Full Version : Only 4?
So far, besides the Xplosion, only Minot, Albany and Utah have been heard from this year, aside from Vancouver who stepped out for the year. There are 8 teams in the league. The season starts in slightly over a month.

The D-League has it's draft later this week, and within the next two weeks things will hate up fast. Here is how things go:
1st- Most of the better unsigned players will either look to replace an injuried players over seas or sign an NBA Developmental Player deal before they commit to the CBA.
2nd- If they decide to sign the D-League contract they will look over the roster of the team that selects them in the NBDL draft and if there are too many players that play their same position they will either: (A)they will decide to play in the CBA where they can select the team they want to play for (in order to get more minutes)or (B)try-out anyway and then- some will be cut (like Corey Williams did last year) and end up in the CBA.
Others will choose to play in the CBA because most of the players have played over seas and understand team play more so than guys that are fresh out of college. (They prefer to play with guys that already Know how to play basketball).
Remember this is not the ABA, the CBA teams have to wait until the NBA teams make their final cuts (which happens tonight) then they have to wait to see who signs overseas or signs a NBDL Deal, then they have to wait for others that get cut from the D-League teams in mid November.
Only older players, players that have agreements with coaches for a certain amount of playing time or guys that are on the NBA's s..t list (Matt Walsh, Harvey Thomas etc.)will sign with the CBA before the NBDL draft.
That's fine. But I would think teams like Great Falls and the others would be taking some action before the NBDL Draft.

Not really, both Butte and Great Falls hired college coaches, Minot hired a pro coach that has signed Three guys he knows and have played for him in Rockford. College guys have not built pro player/coach or more importantly agent/coach relationships. Yakama has not offically signed anyone either, but they will surely have one of the top teams in the league.
ok, that makes more sense.
As far as Yakima, I remember them from 1995 when the Piranhas lost to them in the Championships. I'm looking forward to when the Xplosion play the Sunkings.

Today all the best players just got the bad news that they have been cut, now they have until wed. to sign a D-League deal. Some of these guys like to choose where they play instead of having the NBA decide. Those are the guys that select the CBA. I can see ex-NBA guys like Robert Whaley, Andre Qwens, Devin Brown and yes, you will like this Chris Taft picking the CBA over the NBDL.
If we get any good products out of the remaining select, that's good. But I'd be happy if the Xplosion can sign some(if not all) those locals that were at the tryouts today.
I don't recall who Chris Taft is, but I'm sure he will be taken by someone.

Check this out if you have forgotten about him already.

Thanks. After reading that, I can honestly say that his name still does not ring a bell, although he played for Pitt. But I would hope that he can join the Xplosion. I have watched Pitt basketball on tv, but I'm not a diehard of the Panthers.

Great Falls and Butte just signed two news players each!
Butte signed Nick Vander Laan (6-10 vagabond that played at CAL, Va and NAIA Concrdia) and Jovan Harris a bench rider at USF that led the IBL in scoring during the 2005 season.
Great Falls seems to be forming a Christian All-Star team by signing Matt Vaughn (formerly of Colorado Christian) and Keith Salscheider (formerly of Liberty University and Christian Heritage), IMO Salscheider is the best of the four.
Those are two teams that I have yet to hear about this (pre)season, Great Falls Explorers and Butte Daredevils.

WAIT! Christian Heritage? Is that a college? Or is it a high school? The only Christian Heritage I know of is a JH north of Chicago. They had a 8th grader who could dunk last year.
