There is a rumor that the Merrell Center is talking with multiple teams about dates. I personally would escort the Copperheads out of town and the three-ring circus they brought with them if we can get another team. Does anyone know if it's a done deal with a new team in Katy?

Hope there are businesses that will support the TC in Cypress. There is a cloud of suspicion as to why they left: arena to small? I doubt that was the reason.

Actually the arena size when you look at the two buildings is a real issue. With af2 there are teams with 5,000 seat arenas like the Merrell, but those are the exception and not the rule. An ideal af2 team needs around 7,000 to 8,000 in attendance to thrive and that just wasn't going to happen at The Leonard.

The Copperheads were one of the few teams that WASN'T a circus in the NIFL and I highly doubt the af2 incarnation will wind up being a circus.

The copperheads have relocated only about 4-5 miles away from the merrill center --- the berry center is larger with more perks --- most real arena/indoor fans will support the copperheads over a group of semi-pros

No, the reason was because the floor was too small.

It was only 180 ft., and the af2 requires a floor of at least 196 ft.

The Merrell Center is 18 miles & a 30 minute drive from the Berry Center, and that's in average traffic.

For that primary reason I think teams will work in both arenas. The Cy-Fair region has around 300,000 residents and the Katy region is not far behind at around 220,000. Both are very high-growth areas with above average income levels. There have been plenty of indoor/arena teams that have done well in smaller markets.

Like I said in the other thread, the only loser in all of this is CS.

Actually, according to the Katy Chamber of Commerce, the Katy area has over 400,000 residents. It's comprised of five 5A high schools, one 4A high school which will be 5A next school year, and they've just broken ground on a 7th high school which may end up being 5A as well. Katy is also incorporated (independent city), which makes it even more impressive. Cy-Fair is an unincorporated suburb of Houston.

You can take the word Katy out of all threads- they are gone to Cypress, TX. and they are 15 miles away. As an avid Katy fan that will not travel to watch the circus and is hoping for an Indoor team to locate in the Merrell Center- I would rather support and watch Youth Football than travel to the Berry Centre. And as far as semi-pro teams what league or teams are you talking about?

You can quite hoping. The signed lease was sent today via overnight delivery. There will be indoor football at the Merrell Center in 2007.

I hope it's the IFL and not the NIFL.

Where & when can I buy tickets. Do you have the name of the team or any details? The Merrell Center is going to be rockin-again if this is true. I had season tickets with the former Katy Copperheads who decided to leave town after a series of circus acts. No play-off game, travel to Beaumont and then the well chronicled 23-hour trip to the Dakotas that did not make sense and then they go to Af2. Katy wants a team that is part of the comunity and gives back and particpates- not just takes and runs and the first opportunity.

I am referring to the NIFL circus not the Copperhead team. Sorry if I offended the clown-guy. I do wish the TC all the luck at the Barry Centre and with a new team coming in- that will be great for Katy. Go Tigers!!!!.

I hope the new owner will not name the team anything with snake in it, as the Copperheads have slitered out of town to Cypress and we had to learn about it through a online media outlet. Thanks!!!

The independent City of Katy is a small fragment of the Greater Katy area. The City itself only has around 13,000 residents, nearly everyone else lives in the Katy ISD and has a Katy ZIP Code but lives in either unincorporated Harris County or Fort Bend County. The Merrell Center does happen to be within Katy's city limits, though.

However, as we all know, the Katy market is MUCH larger than the city itself. I don't know if 400,000 residents are within easy reach of the Merrell, but you can bet the ranch a good quarter of a million (250,000) are. And if it takes over 30 minutes to reach the Berry Center in traffic Katyites and Greater Katyites are going to opt for any reasonably run indoor team in their backyard, not Cy-Fair's.

Everything will be revealed next week. Patience, my friend. Patience.

We'll definitely be looking forward to any sort of announcment, just as long as it's not the NIFL invading Katy again.

Since the report is coming from phydeaux72, I don't think you have to worry about that.
